"You’re quite aware," Gu Annan’s thin lips quirked slightly as he pecked her face lightly, "let’s go down for breakfast."
Moving back to the Gu Mansion had its upsides, at least she felt much more at ease about Little Momo and Little Youyou.
Auntie Li had always been kind to her, not to mention them.
After changing into her clothes, Lu Wanwan followed Gu Annan out the door.
"Where are we going?"
She got into the car with him, "Jin’an. Dad called me this morning."
She paused, then turned to look at the man flipping through documents, "You couldn’t possibly be unaware of this, could you? He wouldn’t bring up the shares for no reason."
Without looking up, Gu Annan said carelessly, "How would I know who he calls?"
"Is it because of you that the shares are being discussed?" Lu Wanwan recalled him saying that he could send Lu Jingtian to jail at any time.
"I merely made him do something he should be doing."
A self-mocking smile flashed across Lu Wanwan’s face; her feelings towards her father were overly complicated, and she didn’t even know how to face him later on.
Since her marriage to Gu Annan, when she had asked him for the shares and trust, he had been evasive and reluctant to agree; they hadn’t seen each other since.
From going abroad to returning home, for six years, she had no contact with Lu Jingtian.
It would have been much easier for Lu Jingtian to reach out to her if he wanted to.
But over the years, she had never received even a word of greeting from him.
To him, it was as if his daughter were dead.
Lu Wanwan could only conclude that she was no longer of any use to him.
He could no longer use her to forge connections with the Gu Family.
When she had the opportunity to return home, it was because of Jin’an that she risked the possibility of her children being discovered by him, not for him.
Even though there might still be some lingering familial affection, she still didn’t want to see this father.
Because each encounter with him only made her feel colder, with what little affection that once existed nearly all but consumed.
Yet Jin’an was the Ye Family’s labor of love, and it had to return to the Ye Family’s hands.
After Gu Annan had used Jin’an to ’threaten’ her that time, she had a vague feeling in her heart why Jin’an could still barely stay afloat after six years.
It could only be because of him.
It was clearly a threat, but hearing his words, she could finally feel at ease, knowing he wouldn’t let Jin’an get any worse.
"I’ll go and see what he plans to do," Lu Wanwan said seriously to the man focused on reading files next to her, "Gu Annan, thank you. If it weren’t for you, Jin’an Building might have fallen apart a long time ago."
"I don’t accept verbal thanks," he replied without looking up, almost without thought.
Lu Wanwan, who had been full of gratitude, promptly fell silent upon hearing that.
The driver stopped the car in front of Jin’an Building, and after Lu Wanwan got out, Gu Annan opened his laptop.
His long fingers tapped lightly beside it; he seemed to be thinking about something.
Suddenly, his cellphone rang, and he answered it.
Ji Shaoyang, uncharacteristically void of small talk, got straight to the point, "When will you be at the company?"
"Soon, just dropped off Wanwan," he glanced at the time, he was supposed to be at the company twenty minutes earlier, "What’s so important? Wen Qiao?"
Ji Shaoyang didn’t deny it, his tone carried an undeniable decisiveness, "Aren’t you looking for Cesar? I want to find him too. I think, Wen Qiao might have a clue about where he’s hiding."
In Jin’an Building, the high-level reception room.
"Miss Lu, please." The secretary brewed a cup of tea and respectfully placed it on the coffee table.
Lu Wanwan looked down at it without any intention of accepting, "Thank you."
