Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback Chapter 129

He licked his lips and his eyes gleamed like a predator about to strike.

Just as he prepared to move, an arrow shot toward him from the right.

Lone Wolf reached out and caught the arrow mid-air. The specially crafted shaft snapped in his grip.

"Is that all you’ve got, Daniel? You underestimate me."

"Oh, really?" Daniel didn’t rush to respond. Instead, a faint, knowing smile crossed his lips.

That grin sent a strange discomfort to Lone Wolf’s heart.

"Take him away!" Daniel ordered.

Daniel didn’t spare Lone Wolf a glance as he casually gave the order.

The bodyguards dragged Lone Fox away.

Lone Wolf started to protest but suddenly froze.

His arm had gone numb.

The sensation spread fast and it overtook his entire body. His limbs felt heavy, unresponsive, as if his brain’s commands no longer reached them.

Then, the numbness reached his lungs.

Breathing became difficult.

"Did you play dirty, Daniel?"

Lone Wolf dropped to one knee and his body was too weak to support itself. Keeping steady was nearly impossible.

Lifting his chin, he shot Daniel a deadly glare.

"You let your guard down," Daniel said coldly. "Did you really think I’d play fair with a man who dared to touch my woman?"

Lone Wolf let out a strained chuckle. "Ha. Does the pretty lady know you’re in love with her? Even if you give up your fortune, she won’t be impressed after what you did to her. Why obsess over the small details?"

His body gave out, and he slumped onto the floor. His heartbeat slowed as he stared at Daniel in confusion.

His tone carried a clear hint of mockery.

Lone Wolf had been in Easthan when it all happened.

At that time, he admired Daniel’s ruthlessness. Daniel had shown no mercy, not even to his own wife and children.

But later, Lone Wolf realized things weren’t as simple as they seemed.

After Chantelle’s supposed death, Daniel fell into a deep abyss.

Back then, seeing Daniel so broken, Lone Wolf chose not to take any assassination jobs towards him.

If he had known better, he would have taken the money and ended Daniel’s life.

At least then, he wouldn’t be in this situation.

"Whether Chantelle appreciates it or not is her choice," Daniel said firmly. "But no one is allowed to harm her—not even me, now that she’s back and alive!"

"Fine. You’ve got guts. I’ll send you a gift when the pretty lady decides to forgive you."

Lone Wolf propped himself up, struggling to speak.

He knew nothing about love.

Yet, for some reason, he believed Daniel had found the real thing.

Curious, Lone Wolf wanted to see how their story would unfold.

"Enough. You can live if you tell me your client’s name."

"Just kill me." Lone Wolf let out a weak chuckle. "I’ve been a killer for so long, but I’ve never been killed. Might as well experience it now."

He lay on the ground casually and accepted his fate, rather than betray his client.

"Okay," Daniel said, a cold smirk appeared on his lips. "Your wish is my command."

The security team stepped forward and hauled Lone Wolf off the ground.

As they dragged him away from Daniel, he suddenly reached out and gripped Daniel’s arm.

"Daniel, have you found your kid who fell off the cliff?"

Daniel wasn’t expecting that question. His expression darkened instantly.

Grabbing Lone Wolf by the neck, he growled, "What did you do?"

Lone Wolf burst into laughter. "Hahaha! What’s wrong? Did I hit a nerve?"

Nothing pleased him more than the flicker of panic in Daniel’s eyes.

Daniel’s fury exploded. He walked closer and lifted Lone Wolf off the ground by his throat.

"Talk, or the next sound you hear will be your neck snapping off!"

"Fine... I’ll talk... I’ll talk."

Lone Wolf’s smugness faded as he struggled to breathe. His face turned red, and he finally gave in.

Daniel threw him to the ground and stomped on his chest.

"What did you do to my child?"

"Take it easy... Cough, cough..." Lone Wolf wheezed. "Now that we both have leverage, maybe it’s time to rethink our positions. I guess you haven’t tossed my brother off the cliff yet?"

Lying there, blood on his lips, he chuckled and joked as if he wasn’t inches away from death.

Lying on the ground, Lone Wolf discreetly pulled a mini dagger from his pocket. He stabbed himself, using the pain to jolt his body back to life.

Daniel looked at him silently as his cold eyes stared at him.

Lone Fox had only been taken away, not killed.

Lone Wolf knew Daniel too well.

"I knew you wouldn’t kill him," he said with a weak grin. "You’re not the type to kill someone who puts up a fair fight."

"Well, aren’t you cocky? Can you guess whether I’ll kill you?"

"You will," Lone Wolf said in a mocking tone. "But you probably won’t get the chance."

In a swift move, he tossed a small steel ball at the ground.

The moment it hit, a thick cloud of smoke erupted.

It was a mini smokescreen.

Under its cover, Lone Wolf vanished.

By the time Daniel moved to chase him, he was already gone.

"Send the police after him. He won’t get far!"

When Chantelle dialed Daniel’s number, the name "Proc" popped up on the screen.

She paused, realizing the phone had her SIM card in it.

The call rang for a long time, but no one answered.

"Ashton, you need to tell Daniel that I’ve been rescued. We can’t let Lone Wolf gain the upper hand." She kept the phone to her ear, listening to the busy tone.

Since Ashton was Daniel’s personal assistant, he might have another way to reach him.

"Are you worried about Mr. Wilson?" Ashton asked with a small smile. "He’ll be happy to hear that."

Chantelle was speechless.

Now wasn’t the time for this conversation.

And to think Ashton was supposed to be Daniel’s personal assistant.

With no other options, she chose to send Daniel a text instead.

Her fingers moved swiftly across the keyboard. Within seconds, the message was sent.

Like the call, the text message went unanswered.

Chantelle felt nervous.

She tapped on Calvin’s number, prepared to call for reinforcements.

Before she could dial, her phone lit up.
