"So, about the stick..." Railer decided the plan could work. Now, he just needed the right tool.
Kane didn’t have the heart to keep arguing. Railer looked like a lost puppy in his eyes right now.
With a sigh, he started searching around the cabin.
It wasn’t hard to find a stick since there was plenty of firewood. "Okay. I’ll find one for you. I’m the older brother, after all. Here you go."
Kane picked a stick that seemed just right and handed it over to Railer.
Railer looked it over and felt it would work. He lifted his chin and thanked Kane.
"It’s perfect. Thank you, Lil’ Brother. Let’s go."
"I’m the older brother!..." Kane muttered, feeling stuck.
But since Railer had been kidnapped, Kane knew they shouldn’t stay here any longer.
He grabbed the skateboard and slowly headed toward the door.
Surprisingly, the two worked well together, even if it was their first time teaming up.
He had just saved Rai.
Just like Daddy, Kane was a superhero!
Working together, the boys reached the door in no time.
"Wait for me, Lil’ Brother. I’m going to check," Kane whispered to Railer behind him.
Railer gave a small nod and watched the door.
Kane moved carefully and pressed his ear against it.
After making sure no one was outside, he slowly opened the door.
"Haha! The man in black isn’t back yet. This is our chance to run. Are you ready, Lil’ Brother? Our adventure starts now."
Kane ran back with excitement and grabbed the rope. He was full of energy.
Railer’s serious face lit up with a rare smile. He felt quietly relieved.
Seeing Kane so happy made him happy too.
Railer was starting to like his loud little brother. Kane felt like sunshine, warm and bright.
With Kane pulling Railer out of the cabin, the boys worked together to reach the cave.
From a distance, Chantelle saw the cabin and stopped checking her phone. She put it away and sprinted toward it as fast as she could.
A large locust tree rooted next to the cabin. Its thick trunk was wide enough to hide her completely.
She paused behind it, scanning the area. Once sure no one was around, she walked closer cautiously.
Noticing the cabin door left slightly open, Chantelle moved carefully to push it.
Just as she was about to step inside, she heard a sharp swish of metal behind her.
She quickly turned to the side. A dagger then hit the door.
Chantelle gasped as she saw what had just happened.
The dagger had grazed a strand of her hair and stabbed deep into the door. The handle stuck out, shaking slightly.
Whoever threw it hadn’t held back.
If it had hit her back, she would’ve been dead.
She looked around, trying to find where it came from but before she could react, three more daggers coming her way.
Moving swiftly with her feet, Chantelle rushed into the cabin, avoiding the deadly blades.
One dagger tore through the door and sank into the ground.
Whoever did it, he was cold and brutal.
Chantelle narrowed her eyes. She reached into her pocket, pulled out a marble, and threw it outside.
Smoke spread across the front of the cabin.
Chantelle used the moment to search every corner inside.
But the kids were gone.
Still in shock, she reached for her phone to check the location again.
Suddenly, a man in black crept up behind her.
He wrapped a silver wire around her neck and pulled it tightly.
The air left Chantelle’s lungs. She was thrown out of the wood cabin.
She crashed through the window and landed on the grass with broken glass around her.
The impact made her see stars.
Through the blur, she saw the man who had choked her with a silver wire walking out of the cabin.
"Ha! I expected more from the woman who caught Lone Fox. What a disappointment." The man in black walked toward her, and his voice filled with scorn.
"So, you’re one of Lone Wolf’s men. You’re the one who took the Wilsons’ boy?"
Chantelle’s instincts told her to stay sharp.
She pushed herself up and touched the wound on her neck. Her eyes stared at the man and filled with anger that was ready to burst any moment.
"That’s right. I’m Vic, one of Lone Wolf’s men. Lone Fox is my best friend. You’ll pay for what you did to him!"
Vic became angry and he was ready to strike.
Where’s the Wilsons’ boy?" Chantelle wasn’t backing down, but she needed answers first.
"I left him in the cabin. No idea where he is now. He’s hurt, so he probably didn’t get far. Maybe some wild animal got to him."
Vic blurted carelessly and his face showed no remorse.
He had heard this woman would come if the boy was taken. That’s why he offered to do it.
What happened to the kid didn’t matter to him.
Chantelle felt her head throbbed as her anger rose.
"So you’re saying you left the child in the middle of nowhere? He’s only five!"
"I’m a killer, okay? Why should I look after the Wilsons’ kid? I kidnapped him. Why are you making a big deal out of it?" Vic was amused by her reaction, mocking her instantly.
"That boy is my son."
"Oh wow. I didn’t know you were that close to the Wilsons. That just gives me more reason not to let you leave here alive." Vic’s face tightened as he looked at Chantelle.
"Ha! Do you really think you’ll get away after taking my son? Don’t you wonder how Lone Fox got caught? Let me show you."
Chantelle blew the whistle around her neck.
The sound startled the birds in the trees.
As the birds flew off, Calvin, who had been waiting nearby, rushed over right away.
Ashton, who was moving in from the back with his team, heard the noise and showed up with his men.
"Grab him! Make him regret ever messing with us."
"Got it, Mrs. Wilson!"
At Chantelle’s command, Calvin, Ashton, and their men surrounded Vic.
Each of them held a bow and pointed their arrow at Vic.
