Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback Chapter 161

Meanwhile, at the Wilson Group, Daniel had arrived at the office early. He was working through the stack of documents that had built up over the past few days.

He wanted to finish everything quickly so he could have more time with Chantelle.

Philip said Chantelle was stable for now. But he couldn’t tell if her condition might come back. He didn’t even know what might happen if it did.

Daniel was worried. He had to follow Philip’s advice and keep an eye on Chantelle.

He also knew time was running out. He needed to win her heart again.

Since he made that decision, he had to stay focused. He had spent the whole morning working.

He didn’t stop until his phone suddenly flooded with messages full of shocking news.

He stopped reading the document and unlocked his phone. There were messages from Chantelle’s account. His brows furrowed as he opened them.

Right away, he saw the internet flooded with criticism.

Daniel’s expression turned cold. He quickly figured out the cause—it was Roman.

He followed the posts and found Roman’s live broadcast. Roman was playing the victim again and blaming Chantelle nonstop.

Roman? Didn’t he learn his lesson after what I did to him a few days ago?

How dare he attack Chantelle again? Is he really her father?

Furious after reading the hateful comments, Daniel grabbed his phone and called Ashton.

Suddenly, Ashton rushed in without warning, holding a tablet in his arms.

"Mr. Wilson, bad news! Someone is slandering Mrs. Wilson!" he said, placing the tablet in front of Daniel.

The headline "Chantelle, the unfilial daughter" flashed across the screen.

When Daniel clicked the link, Roman’s live broadcast appeared.

The video already had over thirty thousand comments, most of them attacking Chantelle.

"Ashton, don’t users need to register with their real names when watching a live stream and giving a comment?" Daniel asked.

"Yes. To keep the network safe, all accounts must be verified," Ashton replied. "Mr. Wilson, do you want me to—"

"Send the full list of commenters to the legal team," Daniel ordered firmly, clenching his fist. "I won’t let any of them walk away freely."

He then forwarded all the malicious comments to Ashton. It was clear Daniel had already sorted them out.

As soon as Ashton received the list, he sent it to the legal department without delay. He didn’t dare waste time.

"Mr. Wilson, I’ve sent the list to our legal team. These people insulted Mrs. Wilson. They should be held responsible. But I’m shocked that Mr. Bently would do this. Isn’t he Mrs. Wilson’s father?"

It was Ashton’s first time seeing a father like Roman. Not only did he hurt Chantelle yesterday, but now he had slandered her in front of the public.

"Yes, but he’s not a real man. Ashton, look into Roman Bently and Chantelle’s relationship again."

Daniel had a feeling something was off.

"Mr. Wilson, do you think Mr. Bently isn’t Mrs. Wilson’s biological father?" Ashton asked, puzzled.

"Ashton, what’s going on with you lately?" Daniel replied, giving him a pointed look.

"Huh? Nothing. I’m good."

"Didn’t you used to dislike Chantelle? Why are you defending her now?"

"Mr. Wilson, didn’t you also dislike Mrs. Wilson before? But now you like her," Ashton retorted confidently.

He was sure Daniel had feelings for Chantelle and wasn’t worried if what he thought was wrong.

"I never said I disliked her!" Daniel’s face turned cold.

Huh? What did he just say?

Ashton didn’t dare to argue with him again. He lowered his head and choked back his words.

"Was I that obvious before?"

It took Daniel a while to calm down. He looked at Ashton again with a doubtful look.

"Well... it was pretty clear to everyone," Ashton said carefully but he was a bit nervous, thinking Daniel might get angry.

When Daniel heard Ashton’s words, his heart skipped a beat.

For a moment, Daniel struggled to breathe.

I treated her poorly before. Is that why everyone looked down on her? Even her own parents?

But the Wilson family had become stronger over the past five years. They had remained the most powerful family in Easthan. He had also made it clear that Chantelle was his only wife.

How could Roman still dare to treat her like that? Didn’t I make myself clear?

"Mr. Wilson, Mrs. Bently is terrifying. How could she go to the hospital and try to kill Mrs. Wilson? Could she be involved in Old Mr. Wilson’s death, the one Mrs. Wilson mentioned last night?"

Daniel was stunned by Ashton’s words. He stared at the surveillance video Ashton handed him and his eyes were filled with anger.

"Tell me, what did Chantelle find out last night?"

"I saw Russell in the hallway. He said Mrs. Wilson caught the person who helped kill Old Mr. Wilson. They already sent her to the police. You had just woken up last night and you were still in serious condition. I planned to tell you today since the suspect was already in custody. But I got caught up with Mr. Bently’s live stream. I’m sorry, Mr. Wilson. Please don’t be angry," Ashton said quickly.

He hadn’t known someone tried to harm Chantelle last night. If he had, that person wouldn’t have gotten away with it.

Daniel had barely recovered, and it was all thanks to Chantelle. Anyone who tried to hurt her was asking for trouble.

"Where are the documents?" Daniel asked patiently. But deep down, his anger was building.

If he hadn’t seen Chantelle that morning, he would’ve been in a panic.

"Here they are, Mr. Wilson," Ashton said, pulling a file from under his arm and handing it over.

Daniel flipped through the documents with his slender fingers. The first page listed the name and the person’s personal details.

Stealing confidential files from the Wilson family and killing Wesley wasn’t something Kate could have done on her own. Daniel should’ve realized that sooner.

But why did Ruby want to kill Chantelle? What was she planning?

"Mr. Wilson, what should we do now?" Ashton asked carefully.

"Go to the police station and bail Mrs. Bently out."

"Huh?" Ashton froze. He couldn’t believe what he just heard.

But Daniel didn’t say another word. He turned and walked out.
