Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback Chapter 48

Daniel stayed by Chantelle's bedside for two hours before drifting off to sleep.

Lately, he hasn't been sleeping well. But this time, he slept better than he had in a long time.

When he woke up in the morning, he felt refreshed. His mood was great.

He couldn't tell if his deep sleep was the reason or if Chantelle's presence had something to do with it.

Daniel sat in his office, staring at the computer screen, but his mind was elsewhere.

He kept thinking about what had happened that morning.

The person beside him had clutched him like a frightened child, and her small hands gripped him tightly as if afraid he'd leave her alone.

Her faint scent instantly calmed him, too.

I wonder if she is awake now?

Will she remember that I stayed by her side when she had a fever?

No, she never cared about things like that. She wouldn't remember...

Ashton knocked on the door and walked inside while Daniel was still lost in thought.

"S-Sir... Why is your face red? Do you have a fever?"

Ashton was about to report his findings when he noticed Daniel's face was red, and the color had spread to his ears. Worried, he approached closer.

Daniel frowned, annoyed by the interruption. His thoughts vanished instantly, and his expression turned cold.

"Sir, we have the surveillance footage from the mansion. Chantelle was at Felix's place of death."

Sensing Daniel's displeasure, Ashton turned serious and handed him the tablet.

Daniel's intuition was incredible. There were no clues at the crime scene, yet he had guessed correctly.

Ashton was both amazed and confused, but he kept his thoughts to himself.

"Destroy everything. Leave no trace."

"Destroy? Sir, based on the video, Chantelle and the man beside her are likely the killers. This is the most important evidence."

"She is not the murderer."

"Sir, you've changed."

Daniel's expression darkened. "Ashton, you've been talking a lot lately. Do you not have enough work, or do you just have too much free time?"

Ashton felt his legs go weak under Daniel's sharp eyes.

Before Daniel could send him to Africa to dig wells, he needed to act fast to save his job.

"No, no, sir! I'm not slacking off. That man in the video looks like a murderer. I'll go track him down right away!"

Ashton pointed at the man in black on the surveillance footage, then hurried out of the office like he was running for his life.

But less than a minute later, he rushed back, his face flushed.

"One more thing, sir. Mr. Bently from the Bently family is here. Look..."

"Take him to the meeting room."

Ashton left right away, afraid that staying any longer might cost him his job.

Daniel played the surveillance video he had copied to his phone.

He paused when the masked man in black appeared.

Zooming in, he focused on the tattoo on the man's wrist.

A sharp glint flashed in Daniel's eyes.

Why would the Lone Wolf target a retired personal assistant?

Was Felix really that important, or was someone else the real target?

Daniel's thoughts raced as he focused on the woman in the video.

Meanwhile, Ashton personally escorted Roman into the Wilson Group meeting room. Roman looked anxious.

He had visited before, but back then, the Bently and Wilson families were on better terms.

Now, one of his daughters was a murderer who killed Wesley Wilson, while the other had staged fake charity work to ruin Wesley's name.

The pressure was unbearable. He had been pacing like a cat on a hot tin roof.

He feared that if the Wilson family became displeased, they would destroy the Bently family.

"Mr. Jones, Mr. Wilson..."

"Mr. Bently, please wait. Mr. Wilson will be here soon."

"I appreciate your patience."

Hearing that Daniel was on his way, Roman felt a bit more comfortable. He sat down, but his legs kept shaking nervously.

The meeting room door swung open.

Daniel walked in with long strides, heading straight for the main seat.

He sat down with effortless authority like an emperor commanding all living beings.

When Roman saw him, he quickly stood up.

He cautiously walked forward but stopped about a meter away, avoiding to come near.

"Mr. Bently, you came to see me. Is there something you need?"

Daniel didn't want to waste time and got straight to the point.

Roman was caught off guard. He hesitated for a long time as if gathering his thoughts.

Just as Daniel was about to lose patience, Roman suddenly knelt and pleaded, "Mr. Wilson, please save the Bently family!"

Daniel was startled by his actions and glanced at Ashton.

Understanding the signal, Ashton quickly stepped forward to help Roman up.

"If you have something to say, Mr. Bently, say it."

"Mr. Wilson, the Bently family is in serious financial trouble. We have no cash flow. Since our families have always been on good terms, could you help us?"

Roman broke down, sobbing and pleading like a child.

Daniel watched him, unmoved.

He never had sympathy for men.

"Good terms? Mr. Bently, have you forgotten? The Bently family owes the Wilson family a life. And now you dare talk to me about goodwill?"

"Yes, the Bently family owes the Wilson family, but Chantelle gave birth to a child for the Wilsons. Doesn't that count for something? Our families are deeply connected!"

"We are, indeed, connected. For Rai's sake, I have tolerated the Bentlys for the past five years. I even believed Kate and the rest of your family truly cared for him. I considered merging our families and letting the past go. But what have you all done?"

"Mr. Wilson, Kate, and the others have always treated Rai with love and care. He is my grandson. Why would we ever mistreat him?"

"Really? Mrs. Bently gave Rai ginger powder. He had a fever last night because he's allergic to it. How do you plan to explain that?"

Roman's face turned pale. His legs went weak, and he nearly collapsed upon hearing about Rai's allergy.

"Ah! That woman dared to harm Rai! Mr. Wilson, I had no idea! If I had known, I never would have allowed it. You must believe me! The truth is, Chantelle is not my wife's daughter. That's why she has always been biased against her. But I never thought she would go as far as to hurt Chantelle's child. That's unforgivable!"
