Mia Foster’s eyebrows raised, her face showing confusion.
"What’s wrong? Did I say something incorrect?" She retorted while raising her beautiful neck, under Felix Shaw’s disdainful yet forcibly restrained gaze.
"I’m just being realistic. Isn’t it clear that this little sister holds an important place in her brother-in-law’s heart when she’s personally pushed to attend the banquet by him?" Mia Foster belonged to that category of women with flamboyant personalities, gracious and proper, yet equally blunt in her speech.
She would not have agreed to attend today’s engagement party if it weren’t for interest in the man before her.
"You!" Felix, usually sharp-tongued, found himself at a loss for words against hers.
"Apologies, it seems my family affairs have become a source of amusement for my sister-in-law." Nathan Moore interjected just as an argument was about to break out in such an important setting.
With a slightly leaning posture, his thin lips curved lightly in a gentlemanly and magnanimous manner, which elicited a light scoff from Mia Foster.
"Mr. Moore, I wonder if it’s your wife’s magnanimity or kindness that she feels secure enough to let her husband bring his sister-in-law to a private gathering."
"It’s just that..." Nathan Moore rubbed his brows, appearing to be in a dilemma, and said half-jokingly, "I’m not quite sure about that myself, my sister-in-law may need to ask my wife directly."
Nathan Moore referred to her repeatedly as "sister-in-law," as if unaffected by Mia Foster’s cold sarcasm.
"Your wife?" Mia Foster showed a puzzled look – ’His wife is here yet he brought his young aunt along and is taking care of her personally?’
Could it be that she had misunderstood?
"Hmm-hmm," Nathan Moore affirmed with a sound and pointed with his long arm, "My wife is over there."
Following Nathan Moore’s direction, Mia Foster looked towards the corner of the banquet hall’s drink area, where a graceful figure stood by the window, lost in thought staring outside.
Inside the banquet hall, the soft light from the crystal lamps shone on her, adding a touch of solitude and loneliness, standing out conspicuously from the lively scene of the hall. Just by her silhouette, Mia Foster couldn’t help but inwardly admire and the thought ’otherworldly’ flashed through her mind.
Turning around and taking steps to go over, she was very curious about this woman and wanted to introduce herself.
She was stopped by Felix Shaw.
"Where are you going?"
"To greet my sister-in-law."
Mia Foster responded truthfully, her excitement barely contained in her eyes and eyebrows.
"Isn’t it enough of an embarrassment? Let’s go!" Felix Shaw’s face soured, pulling Mia Foster along to greet other guests.
"Hey hey, let go of me..." With Felix’s large strides and Mia in her high heels, being grabbed by the wrist, she had to follow along.
Felix Shaw was not going to do as she wished, pulling her forward with large steps.
"Truly a pair of quarrelsome lovers," Nicholas Croft shook his head helplessly at their retreating figures.
Nathan Moore also curved his lips and leaned forward, his handsome face close to Olivia Zane’s ear as he whispered softly.
"I’ll take you over there to have some food."
Olivia Zane managed a faint smile.
"You... have you been... okay?"
Titus Zane stood alone in front of the window, lost in the view outside, when a familiar voice arose behind him. His figure stiffened, his fingers clenching tightly around the champagne glass stem as he slowly turned around to see the familiar handsome face, his eyes brimming with a hint of warmth.
Trying to force a smile, Titus said, "Pretty good."
"Is that so?" Logan Ray lowered his gaze, his eyes resting on the red liquid in his hand, dressed in a white suit that, along with his expression at the moment, made him look like a prince who had stepped out of a comic book. Only the prince’s gaze was too hesitant, his fine brows slightly furrowed, making one unable to resist the urge to smooth them out for him.
