"Assistant Carrie, you really seem to have a leisurely time as an assistant, first coming in late, and then going shopping during work hours!" As soon as Titus Zane stepped out of the elevator, Secretary Liu, who was seated at the secretary desk, stood up and greeted her with a sarcastic tone.
With her mind preoccupied, Titus Zane didn’t bother to engage and merely glanced at her indifferently as she walked toward her office. Just as she grasped the office door handle, Secretary Liu spoke again, this time sounding somewhat gleeful.
"The president wants you to see him!"
"Understood." She responded indifferently and headed towards Wesley Foley’s office.
"Director Foley, you wanted to see me?"
Compared to Titus Zane’s serious demeanor, Wesley appeared more casual, with a light smile curling at the corners of his lips.
"Nothing much, I’ve heard from Secretary Liu that you stepped out, is there trouble at home, do you need my help?"
One has to say that Wesley is quite the fox, knowing perfectly well that Titus Zane was picked up by Alder Locke, yet he still deliberately probed .
Titus Zane laughed, "No trouble at all, it’s already been taken care of."
"Between us, there’s no need to speak of trouble." Wesley stretched out his arms, and then leaned back in his executive chair, his appearance seemed relaxed, but his heart was already storming.
Having relied on a big shot of the Banyan City’s elite, who needs him, a nobody.
Titus Zane laughed again, saying nothing.
Wesley crossed his hands together, his thumbs rapidly fiddling unconsciously, as he asked out of the blue.
"Carrie, do you know anyone in Banyan City?"
"Ah?" Titus Zane was taken aback, unsure why Wesley would ask this. She shook her head, "No, it’s my first time here in Banyan City."
"Oh, I see," Wesley kept nodding his head while he sighed unconsciously and looked back at Titus Zane with an undiminished smile on his benign face.
"Get back to work, ask the secretary to bring in a cup of coffee."
"Director Foley, allow me to make it for you."
Wesley paused for a moment, then nodded and smiled, "That would be nice. I’m used to your coffee, having coffee made by Secretary Liu would be like poison. I’m worried that if you’re not around, I might have to give up coffee."
Titus Zane smiled, not responding but nodded slightly, "Director Foley, I shall leave now."
"Yes, go on, make an extra cup of coffee."
As she left Wesley Foley’s office, Titus Zane always felt like he was hinting something to her, like the phrase he just mentioned, "If you’re not by my side..."
Normally, it’s the employee who worries about being fired by the boss, but the words spoken by Wesley clearly showed that he is worried she might leave. Could it be... she knows she entered the company with a purpose and will leave once it’s fulfilled?
Titus Zane realized that Wesley Foley is the smartest yet most difficult target she has handled.
Seeing Titus Zane deep in thought as she came out, Secretary Liu stood in front of the secretary desk with her arms crossed, a face full of schadenfreude, "Yo, did the president lecture you? Why do you seem unhappy?"
Again, a mere glance, too indifferent to bother with someone who prioritizes gossip over work.
Watching Titus Zane’s retreating figure, Secretary Liu suddenly switched from her mocking tone and vindictively said, "Serves you right! Always acting so high and mighty!"
A light chuckle erupted through her nose, Titus Zane smiled helplessly, not understanding these presumptuous people.
While Secretary Liu was still taking pleasure in Titus’s troubles, Titus returned carrying a tray with two cups of coffee, making Secretary Liu’s face turn sour instantly.
Her coffee, brewed for the director this morning, still sat on the office desk, yet, she was asked to make two cups!
