"If you’re not into her, then who? That little star Elizabeth White?!" Oliver Shaw, with his hands bracing the arms of his large desk chair, neck craned, roared at his son, the veins on his forehead bulging with rage.
Suddenly leaning back into his chair with a cold laugh, he said, "Felix, let me tell you today, as long as I live, don’t even fantasize about bringing that woman through the door. You’re refusing to coax Mia Foster back, is that it?"
"I’m not going." Felix Shaw’s answer was firm, his demeanour indifferent, no longer surprised by his father Oliver Shaw’s furious state.
"Good," Oliver Shaw nodded, his lips curving into a harsh smile as he looked at his son, "Tomorrow I’ll call her agency and get in touch with the reporters. We’ll join forces to blacklist her. I want to see if you’ll still be so infatuated with her once she’s back to being a nobody!"
"Fine, then go ahead and call," Felix clearly didn’t believe his father’s threat; he didn’t think his father would bother to make life difficult for a little star.
Watching his son remain unshaken, Oliver Shaw nodded with a sinister smile, "Very well, you said it." He then got up abruptly and grabbed the phone, "Xiao Wang, get me in touch with..."
"Dad, isn’t it enough that I’m going?!"
Oliver Shaw had only given his order halfway when Felix pressed the end call button, one hand gripping his father’s wrist holding the phone and the other on the end call button, his peach blossom-like eyes red with the resignation he had to submit to.
"Hmph," Oliver Shaw scoffed coldly as he put down the handset and slowly leaned back in his large desk chair, his hands resting on top, "Felix, you are my son. I am doing this for your own good.
A capable man can have multiple wives and concubines, but only if he ensures the home flag doesn’t fall. But what capital do you have to keep a woman on the side when you haven’t even got your home flag standing straight?"
"Dad, please, no more. I’ll go, I’ll go right now and coax Mia Foster back." If at first he thought his father was just making threats, now he understood; somehow Mia Foster had won his father over, convincing him that the Shaw Family’s daughter-in-law had to be no one but her. Since his father said that only a capable man could have a woman on the side, then he would show himself to be a capable man.
"But you have to promise me, don’t make things difficult for Elizabeth."
"As long as Mia Foster doesn’t make trouble, I won’t make things difficult," Oliver Shaw said seriously, leaning on the large chair.
"You promised?" Felix asked again, worried his father might renege.
"I, Oliver Shaw, have never failed to keep my word!" Oliver Shaw said emphatically.
Felix nodded, got up from the desk, and simultaneously grabbed two brocade boxes, "I’ll go find her now, but as for when she’ll change her mind, that I don’t know."
Just as he turned to leave, Oliver Shaw called him back, "Come back!"
"What now?"
Felix turned around impatiently as Oliver Shaw took a bank card from the drawer and tossed it to him. Felix caught it and looked at the bank card puzzledly, asking, "Dad, what’s this?"
"It’s the engagement party expenses Mia Foster returned. Take it back to her."
As if the Shaw Family needs her money! Mia Foster really knows how to insult people!
Back in his own office, Felix threw the brocade boxes on the desk, flung his suit jacket aside, and angrily slumped into his large desk chair.
Damn woman, no wonder she left so resolutely last night; she was planning to pull this stunt.
She knew full well the Shaw Family would never agree to call off the engagement, yet she turned the tables on me!
