Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride Chapter 697

Felix Shaw whistled proudly, grasped the roses placed on the top of the car shed by Mia Foster, and as he circled around the front of the car, he even blew a kiss towards the company’s entrance. A burst of exclamations followed; the young female employees all blushed, envious of how fortunate their manager was to have such a romantic fiancé.

Opening the car door, Felix quickly sat in, stuffed the roses back to Mia, and said as he started the engine, "I’ll take you to dinner."

Mia looked down at the bouquet without much expression. She wasn’t clear why Felix was doing this; the reason she agreed to come out was not only to spare him from losing face, but more importantly, to make things clear.

At a Chinese restaurant, Felix had reserved a table in advance and even pre-ordered the dishes. The two sat down by the window, and Mia casually placed the bouquet aside.

While waiting for the meal, Mia took the initiative to speak.

"Felix, I didn’t have any other intentions when I proposed to call off the engagement. Actually, the decision to get engaged was too hasty, so..."

"Shhh..." Mia had just started to explain when Felix interrupted her, placing his finger in front of his lips, and upon seeing Mia’s puzzled look, he smiled and said, "Let’s eat first, I’m hungry after a trip to the construction site."

Mia...

The table was empty; the dishes they ordered hadn’t arrived yet.

Just as she was about to continue, Felix picked up the menu again, "Would you like something to drink?"

"No need, I still have to work this afternoon."

Mia, realizing that Felix was deliberately changing the subject, lowered her gaze and leaned back into her chair, her hands tucked into the pockets of her coat.

Peering over the edge of the menu, Felix stole a quick glance at Mia, noticing her evidently unhappy demeanor and slightly curved the corner of his lips.

No matter whether she genuinely wanted to cancel the engagement or was playing a game, he intended to make her change her mind. The old man had already given in, and as long as Mia didn’t make a fuss, he wouldn’t interfere with his relationship with Elizabeth White.

If he had to marry a woman anyhow, it was always better to bring home someone sensible and understanding than one who threw tantrums.

The dishes arrived quickly, two meat and two vegetarian dishes, accompanied by two bowls of rice.

The two of them picked up their chopsticks and quietly ate without further conversation. Mia kept to picking at the dish in front of her and never touched the other three.

While Felix was eating his rice, he glanced over at her from time to time, but Mia kept her gaze down, ignoring him completely.

After about fifteen minutes, Mia put her chopsticks down and silently wiped the corner of her mouth with a napkin without saying a word.

Felix also put down his chopsticks, pulled out a napkin and asked her, "Finished eating?"

"Mmm."

Mia placed her napkin on the table and never looked at him. Felix raised his arm, signaling to pay the bill. When the server arrived, Mia took out a card from her coat pocket and said to the server, "Excuse me, let’s go Dutch." She then pointed to her plate of stir-fried celery and the small bowl of leftover rice, "This one, and this one. I’ll pay for these."

Felix leaned back in his chair, his handsome face looking even more helpless.

The server glanced at the bank card Mia had handed over, then at Felix, looking somewhat troubled.

Felix was a regular at their establishment, and requesting separate bills was indeed a slap in the face.

"This meal’s on me." Four words from Felix, his tone left no room for doubt.

Taking back her bank card and putting it in her coat pocket, Mia said "Thank you," then got up and walked toward the restaurant’s door.

"Mia Foster, come back here!" Felix felt that there was no woman in the world as fussy as Mia. He had shown his intentions so clearly, with flowers and personally meeting her at the company’s door, yet she was still playing hard to get.
