Felix Shaw lit a cigarette for himself, watching Mia Foster enter the small mansion. He squinted slightly, lost in thought. After finishing his cigarette, he started the engine again, parked the car in front of the small mansion, turned it off, got out, and stood at the door, pressing the doorbell.
A familiar female voice sounded, speaking fluent English, "May I ask who is it?"
Felix Shaw didn’t answer, continuing to press the doorbell. Two minutes later, he faintly heard hurried footsteps coming from inside, running over, followed by the door opening from inside.
Holding the handrail, Mia Foster revealed most of her body and, seeing the man standing at her door, was clearly stunned. Without giving her a chance to react, Felix Shaw raised his hand and covered the door, trying to push his way in.
But—
Even with force, the door didn’t open any further. Only by looking carefully did he notice that there was a metal chain lock inside.
"Mia, open the door,"
Mia Foster hadn’t expected Felix Shaw to find her residence and, upon realizing it, was somewhat annoyed, "You followed me!"
"No, it’s too hot outside, open the door," as he spoke, Felix Shaw’s arm had already reached through the gap in the door, attempting to touch the chain lock to open the door.
Felix Shaw’s actions further angered Mia Foster. While shouting "Get out," she continuously slapped Felix Shaw’s extended arm. Seeing that he was still unwilling to retract it, she simply grabbed his hand and lowered her head, biting it.
With a sharp hiss of pain, Felix Shaw withdrew his hand, looking at the row of clear bite marks on his wrist, cursing under his breath, "Mia Foster, damn woman, are you a dog!"
With a bang, the door closed in his face.
Rubbing his bitten wrist, Felix Shaw continued pressing the doorbell. Not receiving a response, he knocked on the door forcefully, his handsome face having turned livid; Felix Shaw hadn’t expected Mia Foster to be so heartless.
A few minutes later, instead of Mia Foster, the neighbor next door emerged—a silver-haired old lady. She opened the door, looking at him with obvious dissatisfaction, cursing in English, and warned him that if he didn’t leave, she would call the police.
Felix Shaw wouldn’t be stupid enough to deliver himself to the police station, so he apologized to the old lady and turned back to his car.
Starting the engine, he drove forward. At the end of a row of residential buildings, Felix Shaw turned the corner. Behind the small mansion, small yards surrounded by iron railings came into view, some yards planted with flowers, some had artificial lakes in front.
Relying on memory, Felix Shaw walked up to the gate of the small mansion where Mia Foster lived, sneering inwardly. Dead woman, did she think that by not opening the door, he wouldn’t be able to get in?
He parked the car outside the gate, got out, crossed a small lake, arriving at the iron-fenced yard. Grabbing hold of two fence posts, he easily climbed over.
He walked along the stone path, skirting a small artificial lake. When a huge creature in the water raised its head, Felix Shaw was shocked; it was an alligator, its head poking out of the water, staring intently at him.
After recovering from the shock, he became even more worried. He had to inform that dead woman there was an alligator in her backyard, in case it accidentally got inside the house or she encountered it when coming out—the consequences could be unimaginable.
Running quickly toward the small mansion, Felix Shaw was also worried that the lurking alligator might suddenly spring ashore and hurt him. When he reached the door, it remained tightly closed. Thinking that even if he called, she wouldn’t open it, he looked up at an iron pipe directly connecting to the upstairs and climbed it with his bare hands.
