Once inside, they saw the old couple having dinner at the table.

Xia Yangyang wasn’t shy: “I’m actually quite hungry, so if you insist, we’ll accept.”

She provided bowls and chopsticks, and they all sat together at the table.

All the strays found homes within the city, mostly in nearby neighborhoods.

At that moment, a cat walked over, meowing before it jumped onto Xia Yangyang’s lap and curled up.
The couple had kept only two pets — a dog and a cat.
The eldest, a black puppy and an orange cat they took care of since birth.
Xia Yangyang patted the cat, saying, “Uncle Yu, Aunt Yu, now that we’ve sorted the pets out, you two should consider the government’s relocation offer. These houses are old and it’s dangerous to continue living here.”
Aunt Yu nodded in agreement, “Don’t worry, we’re planning on moving out tomorrow. Miss Xia, you are truly a good person. We can’t thank you enough. If there’s anything we can help you with in the future, please let us know. We’ll do our best.”
Xia Yangyang smiled, “You and Uncle Yu have worked hard for most of your lives, now it’s time to properly enjoy your retirement.”
Leaving the alley, Xia Yangyang felt particularly light-hearted and happy.
She even began humming a melody as they walked along.
Gu Qichen looked at her with a smile, “You seem quite happy.”
