He could not believe that she could still laugh at what had happened.
Ye Qiao knew that he was displeased, but she was not afraid of him. She still looked at him with a face full of amusement. "Brother Xiao, if you're not letting Cheng Dafei do it, are you going to take care of me?"
Lu Beixiao did not answer immediately. Instead, he took two drags of his cigarettes before placing it in his mouth again. Boldly, he started moving closer to her. Ye Qiao hurried her back as he drew closer and closer until she finally hit a wall and was left with nowhere else to go.
He placed one arm against the wall, so she was trapped between the wall and his body. It seemed that she was romantically shoved to the wall by an attractive man.
The sky was dark, so the only thing that she could see was the lit cigarette in his mouth. The mixed scent of tobacco and alcohol had become even stronger due to their proximity. He then took a puff of his cigarette and drew his face closer to hers before blowing some smoke in her face.
She could feel her heart thumping uncontrollably, and so was his.
"Do you want to be taken care of by me?" He softly said in a sexy voice. Their faces were only inches apart.
Ye Qiao could literally hear her heartbeat; it was so strong that she could not ignore it. She had not felt that way about Lu Beixiao before, but she knew very well that this feeling was because of him.
"I do," she held her head up and answered.
"Do you know what it means to be taken care of?" He then added, "It means we are seeing each other."
"Brother Xiao, what do you mean by seeing each other?" She gulped nervously while acting innocent.
There she went, yet again, playing dumb.
They were no longer in the Ye family's territory, so Lu Beixiao would no longer hold himself back and do nothing this time. He needed to do what a man needed to do. He had to prove to her what he meant, with actions.
Ye Qiao was dumbstruck; it all happened too fast. It was not what happened during their first encounter when they met for the first time ages ago.
"Ouch!" Ye Qiao wanted to push him back, but she accidentally touched the cigarette that was hanging in his other hand. The burn on her skin was all she could feel for the moment.
"Did you get burned?" Lu Beixiao noticed the change in her expression and was instantly troubled.
"I accidentally touched the cigarette with the back of my hand."
He did not wait any longer before grasping her by the wrist and pulling her away hastily. The empty office was pitch-black, but as soon as they reached the stairs, the sensor-triggered light was immediately activated.
There was a washroom on every floor, so he quickly pulled her into the men's toilet. "Which hand? Show me!"
He seemed focused, and perhaps, also a little anxious. Ye Qiao offered her left hand to him and showed him the red mark on her skin. The pain was bearable, but he refused to take it lightly. Eagerly, he put her hand under running water.
The cold water soon washed the burning sensation away, but she continued to lay her eyes steadily on him as he furrowed his brows in an expression of displeasure.
She still remembered how terrifying and uptight he looked when he found out that she had a miscarriage in her past life. That was the only time he showed her his soft spot while she slept, with the same frown and the same furrowed expression. In fact, she only pretended to be sleeping while he sat by her bed, so she saw how he looked. For once, she was convinced that he cared for her, but the feeling was quickly dismissed. What a terrible fool that she used to be.
After a while, Lu Beixiao guessed that the pain must have subsided. He tilted his head to take a look at her, but all he saw were her teary eyes.
"Are you still in pain?" He expressed his concern with his gentle eyes that exuded tenderness.
She never knew that the tough and unyielding man had such tender sentiments.
Ye Qiao looked stupefied. Her nose twitched, and she began to weep as she was overcome by acute nostalgia of their past and, at the same time, was deeply moved by his concern for her. She finally knew how much he cared for her.
It grieved Lu Beixiao to see her in such anguish. It seemed to him that the running water did not work at all, so he took a look at her supple skin again and thought that the burn must be more severe than it seemed.
"Let's go! Let me put some cream on the burn.." He then pulled her out of the washroom.
