Five minutes later, all six members of the alpha team of Blood Wolf were ready on the field.
Lao Cai was dressed in a semi-formal outfit, with a pair of camo-printed pants, a simple black jersey, and a black cap. That was quite usual for him. On his left stood instructor Chen. He had just finished conducting the roll-call.
"At ease!" Lao Cai commanded.
The team looked slightly more relaxed now.
"Newbies, N City is awfully hot, isn't it?" Lao Cai said calmly while pacing back and forth.
Lu Beixiao knew him well enough to know that this would be just another complaint.
"Sir, it's so hot that I almost died!" Da Sha answered truthfully. They stood in the field, all armed to the teeth. The temperature was already more than 30 degrees celsius, though in the wee hours of the day.
"Are you dead yet?" Lao Cai intruded with a note of seriousness.
The hostility in his voice sent shivers down their spines.
"Sir, I'm not!" Da Sha responded in a dull manner so as not to get into trouble.
There was a sputtering burst of laughter over Da Sha's response. Apparently, the man was truly the laughing stock of the team. Nevertheless, Lao Cai's solemn expression was a hint for them to stop laughing.
"Agreed; it's hot. Don't you want to sit comfortably under the ceiling fan and have some refreshing watermelon to quench yourself from the heat?" Lao Cai added.
"Sir, I think about it even in my dreams," Fang Zhuo smilingly said.
"It'll just be a dream! Your five-kilometer off-road training starts now! I want all of you to be back in 20 minutes. If you leave anyone behind, all of you newbies are going to suffer, together!" Lao Cai's command was thunderous to the ears, resounding and forceful.
It was an unexpected turn of events, to say the least. In their heads, all of them were already cursing him for the brutality. About 15 minutes later, Lu Beixiao took off his bags and lay flat on the ground as soon as he made it back to the starting point.
However, Lao Cai was truly a man of many troubles.
"Are you tired already? Did you feel tired when you went for your date?" Lao Cai said in an attempt to tease and annoy Lu Beixiao, but he remained motionless on the ground.
"Who's tired now?" As an old bachelor, Lao Cai simply had too much time on his hands and nothing to deal with in his life, so all of his energy was spent torturing his squad.
"Lu Beixiao, do you really think that you're ever-victorious all because you were won the Triphibious Operation award? By looking at you now, I don't think you'll make it long enough to graduate from the Hunters School! Get ready to be expelled anytime!" Lao Cai teased again.
Lu Beixiao sat right up with a big smile on his face. "Lao Cai, are you ready to get a slap in the face?"
Lao Cai acknowledged it with a condescending sneer, "Be a man and don't just talk!"
Lu Beixiao knew very well that it was just reverse psychology, so he ignored him completely.
"Very well. A rich kid like you should stay here instead of getting yourself killed out there," Lao Cai said in an enigmatic manner before walking away.
Meanwhile, all six members of the team had completed their training in just 18 minutes. But just when they thought that they could go back to sleep, another blast of sirens crushed their hopes.
The chopper had already landed.
"Blood Wolf Alpha, gear up with your equipment!"
They were called for a mission.

Ye Qiao woke up earlier than usual to visit her brother in the hospital. She had been worried about him all night long.
