Two scouts found her.
When Song Lili woke up, she was already in the military hospital of the Xilin Military Region.
Outside the ward, the footsteps of doctors and nurses coming and going mingled with the moans of the wounded soldiers.
The one watching over Song Lili was none other than Qi Yong, who looked at her with an expressionless face, and his voice carried no hint of concern.
Pain, her whole body was in pain.
Song Lili could barely move her neck; any slight movement would pull at the wound on her shoulder blade.
"Do you want some water?"
Qi Yong handed her a straw, and after drinking two sips of water, Song Lili began to speak,
"What time is it now? My brother is still at home, Lieutenant Qi, my brother is only five years old..."
"Don’t worry, after you were taken hostage yesterday, Senior Lu had already sent someone to pick up your brother and bring him to the military region. He is being looked after there."
The hint of sarcasm in Qi Yong’s words left Song Lili somewhat dazed.
"Thank you, Lieutenant Qi."
"No need to thank me; if you’re going to thank anyone, thank Commander Lu."
Song Lili nodded, "Yes, when I meet Commander Lu, I will be sure to thank him properly."
Taking a deep breath, Qi Yong saw that she was awake and didn’t want to stay any longer. He instructed her to rest easy and was about to head out the door—
Qi Yong was slightly impatient, not even turning his body around.
Song Lili didn’t understand why Qi Yong’s attitude towards her had suddenly become so strange, but at that moment, she didn’t care. She just wanted to ask him,
"Last night, someone saved me..."
"Otherwise, how do you think you ended up lying here safely in the hospital?"
"Lieutenant Qi, do you know who saved me?"
Qi Yong turned around, his eyebrows furrowing as he looked at her, "You don’t know who saved you?"
Song Lili was also frustrated,
"It was too dark at the time, the person was wearing a mask and a Xilin Military Region uniform. After rescuing me and checking my wounds, he left without saying a word... as if he didn’t want me to see his face, or recognize him somehow..."
Qi Yong looked stunned for a moment... A flicker of confusion crossed his eyes, but it quickly cleared.
"Lieutenant, do you know who that man was?"
"Tang Xiaohua, if someone doesn’t want you to know, there must be a reason for it. Asking too much will only mess things up for others. Your injuries are serious; you better not entertain wild thoughts and focus on resting."
"That... was Duan Shen captured?"
"When can I see Commander Lu?"
"Tang Xiaohua, no matter how you’re related to Commander Lu, I beg you, please don’t give him any more trouble. Commander Lu is injured and cannot get out of bed to see you right now."
Song Lili was shocked,
"He is injured? Where was he shot?"
Qi Yong didn’t want to tell her, but if he didn’t, perhaps this woman wouldn’t feel the slightest remorse,
"He was shot in the leg."
After speaking, Qi Yong left, closing the door briskly behind him as though afraid Song Lili might ramble on.
Lying in the bed, Song Lili stared blankly at the white wall in front of her. That person was... Lu Ziqing.
But why... why did Lu Ziqing come to save her and yet not want to show his face?
Why would the commanding officer of the respected Xilin Military Region, without a single soldier at his side, charge into enemy territory alone to rescue hostages...?
Song Lili was bewildered.
After leaving Song Lili’s ward, Qi Yong went upstairs to visit Lu Ziqing’s room, where he found Lu Ziqing pacing restlessly around the room with the aid of a crutch.
Seeing Qi Yong, he hurriedly said,
"Qi Yong, you’ve come at a good time, send the two soldiers away from the door."
