Ms. Diviner: The Prodigal Daughter's Return Chapter 54

"Escape? If there really were a disaster, would you have a chance to escape? Luckily, this meteor shower didn’t directly hit our Heishi City, otherwise you wouldn’t even have a chance to run for your life, so inexperienced!" someone beside coldly huffed disdainfully.

"Yes, if it had fallen directly on our heads, it’s likely that not even nine lives would save us from death," another said, relieved.

"Do you think you won’t die just because it didn’t land on your head? Logically, such a grand meteor shower falling, even if it didn’t hit Heishi City, would probably flatten everything within a thousand miles radius—I don’t feel anything though?" someone else said, perplexed.

"True, such terrifying meteors falling, and not just one, but a shower of them, and I only felt a slight tremor, wasn’t as horrifying as the legends say?" others echoed, also puzzled.

"What do you know!" a scholarly-looking old man flicked his robe sleeves, his face full of contempt, "You see the meteor shower as if it was falling on our Holy Court Continent, but that’s not the case. The majority of what fell were just meteorite fragments, and most burned to ash midway through the air. Hardly anything actually landed on the ground, otherwise we wouldn’t be alive."

"So that’s it, Mr. Fang is indeed knowledgeable," the others realized with admiration and said admiringly.

"Anyway, this meteor shower isn’t really a threat to our Heishi City, so everyone need not worry too much. However, those who happened to be outside the city, caught by meteorite fragments, will certainly meet their end. Once the meteor shower is over, we’ll go outside and see, and if we can still find some bones, we’d do well to collect their bodies," Mr. Fang, after being praised, wore a faceshowing a compassionate demeanor.

Amidst the crowd, Mu Cheng and his follower had smirks of schadenfreude on their faces.

People outside the city, wasn’t that just Mu Hanyan? From the direction he had left the city, it was exactly where the meteorite fragments had fallen.

"Hehe, this time Mu Hanyan is definitely dead," the follower mocked with a sneer. ɴᴇᴡ ɴᴏᴠᴇʟ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀʀᴇ ᴘᴜʙʟɪsʜᴇᴅ ᴏɴ n0velfire.net

"This idiot, thinking he could escape unharmed, who knew he’d encounter the meteor shower, now he’ll die even faster, hahaha." Mu Cheng laughed uncontrollably with excitement.

"Shall we go and see, help recover his body?" the follower asked with a malicious grin.

"Collect, of course, we collect. After all, we are family. I, Mu Cheng, still have that decency, hehe...haha." Ye Cheng put on a face of righteous indignation, yet his eyes were filled with mockery. You tried to trick me, Mu Hanyan, now your retribution has come, right?

"I appreciate the thought, but I’m sorry to disappoint you," suddenly, Mu Hanyan’s calm voice rang out from behind.

"Wha..." Mu Cheng’s laughter stopped abruptly, he turned his head, eyes wide as if he had seen a ghost, and looked at Mu Hanyan incredulously, "You...you didn’t die?"

"Wanting me dead is not so easy," Mu Hanyan looked disdainfully at Ye Cheng and said coldly, "Also, a piece of advice for you, stop opposing me from now on, otherwise your death will be hideous."

After saying this, Mu Hanyan did not look at Mu Cheng again and walked straight toward the city.

Behind, Mu Cheng’s mouth remained agape, speechless for a long moment.

Although Mu Hanyan appeared no different from before and his tone was calm and indifferent, he brought to Mu Cheng an unusual sensation that was unprecedented. Dignity? Pride? Even Mu Cheng himself could not describe this feeling, but when Mu Hanyan’s last sentence came out, he felt an inexplicable reverence and even dared not mock as he had before.
