Chapter 47 Her Mother's Husband
"Veronica? It's Mom."
Upon hearing the voice of Chloe Bowen, Veronica's expression immediately changed.
"How did you know my cell phone number?"
"As long as one has the determination, it isn't impossible to know."
Instead of asking her how she knew, Veronica told her, "Didn't I tell you not to contact me? Is it hard to understand that? Why are you doing this? You asked John Cage to come to the KING Group to find me. Are you trying to kill me?"
"Veronica, there's nothing I can do about it. Your brother asked me who hit him the other day, so I told him. And you telling me not to contact you again, that's impossible. You are my daughter and nothing can change that."
'Brother? She was really good at relationships. When did she admit that?'
'Isn't it too late for her to say anything sanctimonious now?'
Chloe then said, "I called you because I wanted to ask you to have dinner with me."
"There's no need for that."
"Veronica, are you going to turn down your mother? Mom cares about you. "
"If you do this, are you not afraid of being found out by John's father?"
Chloe smiled and said, "Of course he knew I have a daughter like you. I used, to be honest in front of him. And tell him about you. I told him how my daughter was such an adorable and beautiful kid. That when you went out to play, everyone else envied you so much. You don't have to worry about anything. Even, John Cage's father thinks he should let you come to the Cage family as a guest. Veronica initially thought that her mother, who had left her when she was young, no longer cared about her. She didn't think she would tell her husband's family about her.
She thought to herself, 'Was it so I could forgive her mother for abandoning me? She knew exactly what kind of man my father was, but she left me with him.'
"Veronica, I know you've suffered a lot since I left. It was because of your father's character that I was in a hurry to leave. In the end, we all suffered."
Veronica's eyes were a little red, and she bit her lip.
"I just want you to have dinner together and tell me about your life. Is that all right?"
Veronica didn't know why she said yes.
Perhaps, in her heart, she longed for her mother, too.
During the time when her mother was still around, every time her father scolded her, her mother protected her. Veronica could not deny that even if she was abandoned by Chloe, she still missed her mother's kindness for so many days and nights.
She knew that her mother had her reasons and that she and her mother were both unfortunate.
When Veronica arrived at the restaurant where they would have dinner, she didn't expect to see the man who was with Chloe.
The dinner was in a high-end restaurant, and a function room was reserved.
Veronica stood in the doorway and she hesitated.
The facial features of the man were similar to those of Nick's. Although the years had depicted traces on his face, she could still see his elegant demeanor when he was young. And because Chloe was together with him, she need not ask who this person was.
Chloe smiled and directed her to the table. She said, "Veronica, this is John Cage's father."
Veronica was stunned. She only remembered Chloe inviting her to have dinner with her, but not with Nick Cage's father!
Kevin Cage was kind. He told her, "Make yourself at home and sit down."
Veronica did not move. Only when she was pulled by Chloe did she sit down to the side. She did not say a word as she was nervous.
But it was not because of Chloe with her current husband.
It was because she was with Nick's father.
