Chapter 765 There's Nothing In This World That I Wouldn't Do
"What happened earlier really frightened me. Are you satisfied with such an answer?" Veronica looked at him fearlessly, her eyes clouded with mist.
But Nick did not back down from her challenging gaze to see who was tougher. His black eyes were deep and sharp as if trying to get a quick run through of her soul.
"You have to thank someone in particular, or else I would be the one lying in the hospital bed right now. Or would you rather see me lying on a hospital bed?"
"I didn't say that!" Nick creased his eyebrows.
Veronica shoved his arm away angrily, stormed out of the bathroom with only the towel wrapped around her naked body, and went straight back to her room.
She took off the bath towel and put on her pajamas.
Nick Cage followed her into the room and watched her silent figure sitting on the edge of the bed.
Of course, he did not want anything to happen to Veronica, and right now, he couldn't think of even investigating the timely appearance of Toby!
Veronica's dark expression made him feel dazzled, annoyed and hostile.
"Can you leave me alone?" She avoided meeting his eyes and said, "I want to take a rest." Feeling a surge of rage, Nick lifted her jaw, and his eyes were compelling. "Are you thinking about him?"
"And why wouldn't I?" Veronica yelled. "He took a bullet for me, and for goodness' sake, I had to at least take him to a hospital! He could've died, and I didn't leave until I made sure that his life was far from danger. Besides, I was only a little worried about him. I told Suzanne that I took him to the hospital and then I left, okay?"
Her narrative was very insipid that the thought of her worrying about Toby barely bugged him, yet he still doubted the genuineness of her words. But her sincerity and frankness, concealed any traces of deception, if there were any.
Observing how helpless Veronica was, what Nick Cage wanted to do to her that she'd have no other choice but to succumbed to which naturally depended on his choice, and even his mood was obviously compromised.
As a result, Nick Cage can't even use any means at the moment. Her face was so cold and tight that even his hand holding her chin could tell how extremely stiff it was.
Veronica lowered her eyes and fell on one of the black buttons of Nick's shirt. "If that's not enough, I really don't know what to do."
"Are you angry with me?"
"No." She immediately replied, without having second thoughts.
"And you are not afraid of me dealing with Toby?" Nick asked intensely.
Veronica was baffled and for a moment, did not know how to react. She raised her head and looked at him. "Will you?"
"There is nothing in this world that I would not dare to do!"
Veronica said calmly, "I really feel guilty about what happened to him! And once you feel guilty, you'll find a way to make it up to him! Don't you think so, too?"
Nick Cage's face was livid, and the veins in his patient neck were beating. "Are you threatening me?"
"Who dares to threaten the head of the KING Group? It's not like I'm not fully aware of how territorial you are." Veronica sneered. Not only did she make the following remarks, but she also pushed his hand off her chin and looked at Nick defiantly.
He looked at her with his darting eyes, and the terrible atmosphere in the room was about to burst! In the end, he did not mind the restlessness he felt on his chest and blazed, "I am staying here tonight!"
With that said, he turned around and went out.
Veronica was left till sitting on the edge of the bed, the rough touch of Nick's grip on her chin still lingering there.
Whether Nick would stay there or not, she was in no place to resist.
She rolled over and went to bed with the guilt wrapping around her. But the restlessness she was feeling inside was keeping her wide awake that she kept tossing around on the bed.
Still, her body wouldn't stop from shaking.
At that moment, she was not afraid of Nick dealing with Toby, but she thought that it was really dangerous.
She had to admit that she was angry and acted impulsively.
But what else could she do?
She had been cornered.
Meanwhile, Nick was standing under the shower in the bathroom, with his face still tied in knot, not getting much better than before.
