The kiss was electric.
Rina’s lips were soft and warm against his, tasting faintly of chlorine from the hot tub. Her hands moved from his shoulders to his chest, fingers splaying against his muscles as she pressed closer.
Akira felt the heat building between them, his hand tightening in her wet hair, pulling her deeper into the kiss. Her body moulded against his in the water, and he could feel every curve, every breath she took.

"I know what you want. And I want it too." He gently but firmly created distance between them, sliding back to the opposite side of the tub. The cool air hit his heated skin like a shock. "But I can’t. Not right now."
Rina’s expression shifted from desire to hurt, confusion flickering across her face. "Did I do something wrong? I thought you..."
"You did nothing wrong, Rina," Akira said quickly, hating the wounded look in her eyes. "It’s not about you. It’s... it’s about something I need to handle first. Something serious."
She was silent for a moment, processing his rejection in the steaming water. The romantic moment had shattered like glass, and Akira felt the sharp edges cutting into him.
"The test," she finally said, understanding dawning in her eyes. "You’re worried about the test, aren’t you? Like, actually worried. Not about drugs... something else."
Akira didn’t answer, which was answer enough.
"Is this why you and Ayaka were talking on the balcony earlier? Why she looked so serious?" Rina moved to the edge of the tub, preparing to leave. "There’s something you’re not saying. Something big."
"Rina, I..."
"Save it." She climbed out of the tub, water streaming down her body. But instead of storming off angry, she grabbed a towel and turned back to him with a complicated expression. "You know what? Fine. Handle your mysterious thing. But don’t think this conversation is over, Akira Kanzaki."
"I wouldn’t dream of it."
"And for the record?" She wrapped the towel around herself, her tsundere attitude fully activated now. "That kiss was amazing. So when you’re done being all mysterious and brooding, you better be ready to finish what you started."
"Is that a promise?"
"It’s a guarantee." She paused at the door, looking back with a smirk that didn’t quite reach her eyes. "I’ll still send those pictures, by the way. Just so you know what you’re missing out on while you’re busy with your ’something serious.’"
"Rina..."
"Goodnight, fake boyfriend." She disappeared inside before he could respond.

Akira slumped back in the hot tub, staring up at the night sky.
"That was painful to watch, darling," Ai commented. "But probably the right call."
"Doesn’t make it feel any better."
"No, it doesn’t. But survival trumps satisfaction."
Akira stayed in the tub for another ten minutes, letting the heat work out the tension in his muscles and the frustration in his mind. Finally, he climbed out, dried off, and headed back inside.
He was halfway down the hallway to his room when he heard the front door open.
Mia walked in with her gym bag slung over her shoulder and her hair damp with sweat. She was wearing her workout clothes: tight athletic shorts and a sports bra that showed off her toned stomach.

"You could’ve called too, or texted when you didn’t see me after school. Or were you busy with someone else and didn’t remember I exist?"
"Come on... another accusation?"
"Just making sure. Who knows what you can be up to in my absence?" Mia’s nose wrinkled slightly. "You smell like chlorine. Were you in the hot tub?"
"Yeah, trying to relax."
"Alone?" Her voice had that dangerous edge to it, the one that preceded jealous interrogations.
"Rina joined me for a bit," he admitted, knowing she’d find out anyway. "We just talked."
"Talked." Mia’s eyes narrowed. "About what?"
"About the accusations, the test, school stuff." All technically true.
Mia’s gaze lingered on his lips, her pupils dilating. She could smell the lingering scent of Rina on him, and the chlorine wasn’t enough to mask the musk of a man who had just been deeply aroused.
"I don’t like sharing, Akira," she whispered, stepping into his personal space, her sweaty sports bra pressing against his damp chest. "And I definitely don’t like finding out my ’boyfriend’ was soaking with another girl while I was training to keep up with him."
"It’s nothing, Mia. Come on, why don’t you go take a bath first?"
"Why don’t you join me?" She placed a hand on his chest, her eyes searching his. "You’re already wet, Akira. And I’m... dirty. It’s only efficient, right?"
