Upon hearing this, Ye Ling laughed, “How could that be? What kind of foolish thief would dare to mess around in fourth brother’s territory? It’s not like they’ve devoured the courage of a bear and leopard.”
“Fair point. But as the saying goes, caution gives a life of ten thousand years, it won’t hurt to be always vigilant.”
As Ye Qilan spoke, he called Xiaole over, “Hongxing and I haven’t been resting well these past few days, so no matter what happens tonight, don’t disturb us. Got it?”
“Yes, sir.” Xiaole watched as Ye Qilan headed upstairs.
“Xiaole, don’t you think fourth brother is acting kind of strange today?” Ye Ling urgently needed someone to validate her gut feeling.
“Hasn’t the boss always been ?” Xiaole didn’t think much of it.
She yawned and returned to her room to rest.
It took Su Hongxing over an hour to finish in the bathroom, all because she didn’t want to share a bed with Ye Qilan. The mere thought of it made her feel sick.
Seeing her come out made Ye Qilan anxious. Picking up the hairdryer, he helped her dry her hair, “You should dry your hair before sleeping or you might get migraines. You’re old enough to take care of yourself now.”
Su Hongxing obediently sat there, responding without sincerity and yawning continuously.
Having been on the road for so long left her utterly exhausted. Coupled with the stress about madam Jiang’s injury, she was emotionally spent.
The last thing she wanted was Ye Qilan insisting on making love tonight.
Ye Qilan had been waiting for her to emerge, must’ve been to get physical, right?
Deciding to get it over with quickly after her hair dried, she began to undress.
Seeing Su Hongxing half-naked when he turned around caught Ye Qilan off guard.
He narrowed his gaze, fixated on her bare ivory-like skin, “The air conditioner is on. If you don’t want to catch a cold, better put your clothes back on.”
It took Su Hongxing a while to understand what he meant.
Swiftly putting her pyjamas back on, she crawled into bed and turned her back to Ye Qilan.
After waiting for a while without Ye Qilan joining her, she turned to look and found him asleep on the sofa. His tall figure curled up on a small sofa, in a rather comical sleeping posture.
Seeing this, her mood instantly lifted. She admired the view for a while before succumbing to sleep.
An hour later, Ye Qilan got up from the sofa and stood by the bed, staring blankly at Su Hongxing’s sleeping face.
He brushed her hair away from her face, unveiling her porcelain-white skin, and gazed intently.
“You must wait for me, give me a little more time…” he murmured silently.
In the middle of the night, Su Hongxing suddenly woke up. She turned over and found herself in Ye Qilan’s arms.
She nudged his shoulder, “Wake up, I think I heard something outside…”
Without opening his eyes, Ye Qilan pulled her deeper into his embrace, his voice husky and sensual, “You heard wrong, just go back to sleep.”
“No, I really heard someone crying for help…”
“Shut up, sleep!” Ye Qilan pushed her head against his chest.
Su Hongxing listened carefully for a while but didn’t hear any noises. Perhaps she really misheard?
Soon after, she fell asleep again.
The next morning, after getting out of bed, she went downstairs with Ye Qilan. Upon seeing Ye Ling and Cao Shiyu, her eyes widened in surprise, “You guys…”
“Su Hongxing, you must have sent someone to attack us in the middle of the night, right?!” A badly bruised Ye Ling stormed up to Su Hongxing and demanded loudly.
Why else would only she and Cao Shiyu have been targeted by thieves and been beaten up so badly, while Su Hongxing was perfectly fine?
