After a few steps, Ye Qilan caught up with her and led her away from the crowd, “Avoid crowded places so you’re not jostled. Even if you don’t care for yourself, consider our child.”
Under Ye Qilan’s forceful leadership, Su Hongxing was led into a quiet café.
Ye Qilan ordered two hot glasses of milk. Su Hongxing sat by the window and watched the swirling world outside; cars and people bustling about, displaying a lively spectacle of the ordinary world.
She silently watched the window, while Ye Qilan was silently watching her.
“Ye Qilan, do you think our child is a boy or a girl?” Su Hongxing asked without preamble.
“I’d be happy whether it’s a boy or a girl. Though I hope it’s a boy so that he can protect you when he grows up.” Ye Qilan suddenly felt a pang of sadness.
If Su Hongxing left, taking the child with her, would he never see them again?
If that happened, who the child took after, whether they were faring well or not, he would never know.
