Seeing Liu Qingyin so dispirited, Su Hongxing comforted her: “This might be for the best, after all, Ye Qilan no longer has a reason to bother us.”
Even if Ye Qilan wanted her to bear another child for him, her body couldn’t possibly bear it.
“Don’t think like that, sis. The priority now is for you to recuperate.” Liu Qingyin said this while wiping away her tears, “It’s all that damn Ye Qilan’s fault. If not for him, how could you have encountered such tragedy?”
Su Hongxing, feeling downcast, looked at her own stomach.
There, she had once nurtured a child, but she had still lost it. Once upon a time, no matter what, she had resolved to protect this child. Yet, in the end, she failed…
Liu Qingyin would occasionally glance at Su Hongxing, hoping to find some trace of sorrow on her face.
But ever since Su Hongxing woke up after fainting for two days and learning that she had lost the child, she’d accepted the fact with remarkable calm, as though she already knew this would be the outcome.
She distinctly remembered when Cao Zhen took Su Hongxing with him, she’d gripped his hand begging him to save the child.
At that time, Su Hongxing looked so panicked it was as though the sky was falling.
So, she didn’t know whether Su Hongxing’s calm demeanor now was because she accepted reality or it was just the calm before the storm…
Su Hongxing fell asleep quite quickly after that. Liu Qingyin adjusted the quilt and left the ward.
Seeing Ye Qilan standing outside the door, she frowned and said coldly, “Don’t come here anymore, leave! My sister has given you everything she had, now she’s just left with a broken body, you have no reason to torment her further!”
Was Ye Qilan not satisfied until he drove Su Hongxing to her death?
Ye Qilan said nothing and just sat down on a rest bench in the corridor, “I’ll give her three days to rest. During these three days, I won’t disturb her, but when the time comes, she will return home with me.”
Liu Qingyin was instantly livid, yet afraid of waking Hongxing, she grabbed the front of Qilan’s shirt and shouted, “The child is gone, her womb is gone, what are you taking her home for?!”
“You don’t have to argue, my mind is made up.” After saying this, Ye Qilan strode away.
Liu Qingyin soon realized that he wasn’t joking.
The rehabilitation centre seemed to have become Ye Qilan’s territory. She didn’t know where he’d found the men he brought, but they all looked intimidating and their stance gave them away as either soldiers or mercenaries.
After receiving Liu Qingyin’s message, Cao Zhen arrived with a team of guards.
“How did you find this place?!” Cao Zhen asked in a cold voice.
No one knew that he had brought Su Hongxing here for treatment, including Guan Ya and Cao Shiyu.
Ye Qilan answered in a calm voice: “Uncle, I appreciate you saving her. But you are an outsider after all, once her health improves, I will take her back home to recuperate.”
“She has claimed me as her father, therefore she is my family. If she wishes to leave with you, I won’t object. But, if she doesn’t, you cannot take her.” Cao Zhen resonated an aura of imposing authority.
Both of his daughters had been hurt by Ye Qilan; he swore he wouldn’t let Su Hongxing be wronged by him ever again.
“Uncle, don’t forget, you are a prominent figure in this city, with eyes of the public constantly monitoring all your actions. My woman is being detained here by you, and now I want to take her away. You have no reason to stop it! Or, Uncle, do you want to make a big fuss about this in public, and let the whole world know how you, a bureaucrat, is oppressing a common man like me based on your position?”
Ye Qilan’s words made Cao Zhen’s breath hitch.
