Chapter 14: Chapter 14 Unexpectedly, It’s Her!
Wei Lan left, and the atmosphere became even more awkward, but the only one who felt it was Su Nian alone.
“Are you adjusting well to your work?” He said lightly.
Su Nian bent her head and reminded him in a low voice, “Shen Hanxiu! So many eyes are watching!”
Shen Hanxiu straightened up and looked around, and those gazes promptly avoided, “No one’s watching now.”
“President Shen, we no longer have a relationship. My matters do not concern you…”
But Shen Hanxiu picked up a pair of chopsticks and brought a piece of meat to her lips, interrupting her mid-sentence, with a very proper tone, “We don’t discuss private matters in the company, what’s wrong with a boss caring about his employee?”
Su Nian turned to dodge his chopsticks and glared at him, as he spoke as if he were all reason, making it seem like she was the one overthinking, Su Nian couldn’t argue, “Excuse me, President Shen, but please make way.”
Shen Hanxiu reached out his hand to pull her back to sit, then stood up himself, “You should eat properly. I just came to tell you my car is sent for servicing, I’ll hitch a ride with you after work.”
Before Su Nian could reply yes or no, he had already left. Su Nian picked up her chopsticks to continue eating when two girls from the adjacent table came over: “Hey, are you new here? Which department? Are you close with President Shen?”
“How far have you gone? Engaged?”
Su Nian was startled by the continuous barrage of questions, she swallowed hard, “I… I’m not familiar with him…” and with that, she quickly slipped away.
Just on her first day of work, thanks to Shen Hanxiu, she had become a little celebrity. Thinking about the long work journey ahead, Su Nian felt exhausted. Work was already draining enough, and Shen Hanxiu didn’t give her peace, always on guard that those two kids wouldn’t be taken away by him.
Enduring until the end of the workday, Su Nian remembered Shen Hanxiu mentioning hitching a ride, thinking his luxury cars were many, not all of them could be in for servicing, and even if she were to carpool, it didn’t have to be with her.
Su Nian didn’t plan to wait for him, fearing that he would follow, so after work, she rushed down the stairs after clocking out.
Arriving at the parking lot, she headed straight for her car. Just as she drove to the company’s front gate, a man popped out from nowhere. Even in the corner of her eye, she could see that it was Shen Hanxiu. Su Nian hastily hit the brakes, fortunately, she always drove slowly, and no accident occurred.
The man didn’t panic at all, as if he had expected her to stop the car. He casually walked over, his distinct knuckles landing on the car door handle, and the other hand tapped the window, signaling Su Nian to unlock the door.
Su Nian really wanted to just speed off, but the possibility of taking a life made her decide otherwise, so she resignedly unlocked the doors.
Just as Shen Hanxiu’s long leg was stepping in, a woman’s voice came from far away, accompanied by the rapid sound of heels tapping, “Ah Shu! Ah Shu, wait!”
Su Nian peeked through the gap, slightly startled, she hadn’t expected it to be her!
And she hadn’t expected there to still be entanglements between them.
The sound of heels quickly stopped beside the car, and the woman’s coquettish voice said, “Ah Shu, your mother heard you were back from your business trip and has made a dinner reservation to catch up, but she said she couldn’t get through your phone…”
Shen Hanxiu directly cut the woman off: “I hung up, I’m busy, you can go.” A few brief words suffocated the woman’s prepared flood of words.
Without giving the woman a chance to react, Shen Hanxiu continued to get into the car; the woman finally realized and took a quick glance at the person in the driver’s seat, but before she could see clearly, the car door was shut by Shen Hanxiu.
The woman’s eyes widened in shock, not because there was a woman in the car, but… that woman had returned?!
No! It must be a mistake! That woman had been missing, presumed dead four years ago, and wouldn’t come back to sabotage her good fortune!
