Chapter 20: Chapter 20 Did I hinder President Shen’s matters by getting off work slowly?
After lunch, Su Nian returned to the office and lay down on her desk to nap for a bit.
Just as she was getting sleepy, she heard the soft voices of several girls greeting: “Good afternoon, President Shen!”
Half-asleep, Su Nian thought it wasn’t working hours anyway, and no one would care if she slept, so she simply continued to sleep at ease.
“Knock knock—” The next second, someone knocked on the desk, making a particularly grating sound to her ears.
Su Nian opened her eyes irritably and looked at the person standing by the desk; he was the first to speak: “Come upstairs.”
Now the company was buzzing with rumors; they were all saying she was involved with Shen Hanxiu. He might not care, but she needed to avoid suspicion!
So, without getting up, Su Nian asked in a formulaic tone, “What would you like, President Shen?”
With a tone that brooked no denial, he said again: “Come upstairs.”
Su Nian got up and looked around; the office wasn’t very crowded at the moment. Dragging her feet now would only make things more troublesome once more people arrived.
So, she got up and followed him out.
In the elevator, Su Nian stood behind him and yawned. The next second, his voice came: “Are you very tired?”
Alone with him, Su Nian’s attitude was not as good; she simply ignored his inquiry.
When Shen Hanxiu spoke, people usually listened with bated breath. Being ignored naturally wounded his pride, but fortunately, the elevator reached his floor before he could pull rank.
In his office, he picked up a file bag from his desk and pointed to a sofa: “Sit.”
After sitting down, he placed the file bag beside her and said, “Take a look when you have time. Accompany me to sign a contract tonight.”
Hearing this, Su Nian was livid: “President Shen, you must be out of your mind, I am in the finance department!”
Shen Hanxiu took a casual sip of tea, as if he had already thought out how to deal with her response: “Isn’t it up to the boss to arrange what an employee does?”
“You must be mistaken, President Shen. I only get paid for the finance department’s work. Are the people in the PR department just there for show?”
“How about double pay?” Shen Hanxiu offered generously.
Then he stood up and walked toward his desk, continuing, “Go pick up the child this afternoon; leave him with Ah Chen; if you’re tired now with nothing to do, go nap in the resting room inside.”
Su Nian was very unhappy with his abuse of private power, and she didn’t even want to give him another glance. Without waiting for him to finish speaking, she picked up the file bag and walked towards the door.
Hearing the door slam loudly behind her, Shen Hanxiu’s lips slightly curled upwards.
Her temper was still as explosive as before, but it was no one’s fault but his own for spoiling her.
Still sulking until the end of work, Su Nian saw Shen Hanxiu in the parking lot. The busy Third Young Master Shen was just standing by her car, idly killing time! When he saw her approaching, he even asked her, “Why so slow?”
Without so much as a glance at him, Su Nian opened her car door and responded, “Does my leaving work slowly get in President Shen’s way?”
Shen Hanxiu was just as unceremonious, naturally opening the car door and sitting down while saying in a tone one would use to humor a child, “You should be commended.”
“President Shen, you should pay attention to appearances!” She was annoyed at him casually getting into her car. If those people saw, who knew what they would say!
He nonchalantly responded with a “Sure,” but continued to sit comfortably next to her, with an attitude that said, ‘Move aside, the emperor is going to rest; do not disturb.’
Su Nian was so infuriated she was itching for a fight but was helpless to do anything, just drove to the school to pick up the kids, and told them she’d be working overtime that night. It was a common occurrence, and the kids were used to it. She thought that settled things, but when they saw Su Nian leaving with Shen Hanxiu, Su Bao felt uneasy, and chased after her, saying earnestly, “Mom, I’ve finished my homework; let me go with you.”
