Li City’s City Guardian Yu Qiucai’s residence has been filled with worry recently, as his beloved daughter, Yu Yun Die, suddenly collapsed and lost consciousness. When she woke up, she seemed hazy, as if she had lost her soul. She would cry and then laugh, and even ran around the yard wildly after taking off her coat, which terrified everyone in her household. They claimed that the young miss was possessed by an evil spirit.
In her fury, Mrs. Yu suppressed the news to prevent it from spreading beyond their household, while seeking a doctor to examine her daughter. However, even after consulting three different doctors, none could diagnose the issue. Given that Miss Yu was usually in good health, the doctors attributed her condition to a woman’s frailty and prescribed a calming and restorative prescription before leaving.
After the prescriptions were administered and the medicine given, there was no improvement in Miss Yu’s condition. In desperation, when she picked up scissors to cut her hair one day, Yu Qiucai and his wife panicked. They quietly sought a talisman from the temple to hang on her, and took advantage of the night to invite a priestess from Jing’an Temple to perform a ritual.
Considering the situation involved their daughter, inviting a priestess to their home could harm her reputation and affect her prospects of marriage, so they dared not make a big show of it.
