Chapter 1 – Chapter 1: Bone-deep Hatred
Song Zhizhi died in the spring, in the 3rd month of Yanshang Country.
Her memory was blurred, feeling hot and thirsty all night, a feeling that neither air conditioning nor cold water could relieve, a parched thirst, as if thousands of ants were crawling incessantly in her heart.
The next morning, she faced the most shattering scene in her life; a man and a woman were lying on a white bed right before her eyes.
The woman was herself.
And that man… was not her lover.
It was as if the sky was collapsing. Before she could scream, the door was kicked open, reporters flooded in, and strobes of camera lights were relentlessly shining on her in the bed, pale as death!
It seemed as though all the reporters of Jin City had crammed into this VIP hotel room, swarming and teeming…
“Miss Song, your father hasn’t even been laid to rest yet and you are behaving so disgracefully, don’t you have any sense of shame?”
“Miss Song, Chief Yi Wenhan was wholeheartedly devoted to you, yet you deceive him with another man, don’t you find yourself disgusting?”
“Miss Song, you publicly jilted Master Ji Baijian, and now you’ve ended up in his bed, you truly are the joke of Jin City…”
The offensive words strung together were relentlessly assaulting Song Zhizhi’s nerves. Biting her teeth, she tightly wrapped herself in the quilt, blankly staring at everything unfolding before her eyes.
Quite abruptly, she was startled.
In the crowd stood a lean figure, Song Zhizhi saw Yi Wenhan, and watched as he swiftly turned and left.
It’s not what it looks like.
Song Zhizhi disregarded everything and ran off the bed, dragging the blanket, like a crazed woman pushing through the swarm of reporters, chasing after that figure and stumbled out of the room.
“Wenhan, believe me, it’s not what you think…” With blurred sight, Song Zhizhi strained every muscle in her body to chase after him.
She followed him all the way to the deserted rooftop of the big hotel.
In Jin City, on the 3rd month, the willow catkins are floating in the air, bathing under the bright sunlight.
However, she felt icy cold, her entire being was freezing.
Song Zhizhi looked at Yi Wenhan standing on the rooftop. Dragging her body, she took one step at a time towards him.
“Wenhan…” her voice was hoarse.
She didn’t seek his forgiveness, but she wanted to apologize…
“Does your heart hurt? Can’t breathe?” Yi Wenhan turned around.
Song Zhizhi looked at him.
Looking at the mockery in his eyes.
Mockery.
No hurt, only ridicule.
“Actually, I arranged all this.” Yi Wenhan articulated, “You and Ji Baijian… I made it all happen.”
Song Zhizhi looked straight at him…
“Don’t you believe it? You hope it’s all just a dream, don’t you?” Yi Wenhan’s face revealed an evil grin, “Song Zhizhi, we’re done playing this game!”
“Wenhan…” Song Zhizhi murmured, she thought she wouldn’t be able to call out his name again.
“Playing with you for so many years, do you think I want anything from you? Love you? Of course not. I just wanted the identity of Song Zhizhi, the daughter of Song Shan, the top chief finance officer of Yanshang Country, and to climb to the position I desired using you as my stepping stone.” Yi Wenhan stated coldly, “You might as well know, your brother, your father, both died at my hands!”
“Yi Wenhan!”
“Don’t get excited, there’s more.” Yi Wenhan’s victory laugh was so arrogant, “Do you think your stepmother and stepsister truly care about you? Don’t be naive! Your stepmother married your father just to pave an easier path to success for me. She was the one that slowly poisoned him with chronic toxins added to his food. Oh, by the way, your stepmother is my biological mother.”
“As for your brother, I hit the gas, and his brains splattered…”
“Yi Wenhan, enough!” Song Zhizhi screamed, “Don’t you fear divine retribution?!”
“I only believe in controlling my own fate.” Yi Wenhan said, his eyes cruel, as he suddenly grabbed hold of Song Zhizhi, “It’s time for you to end!”
“What are you doing?!” Song Zhizhi’s heart clenched. Behind her was an abyss.
“Of course, to kill you.” Yi Wenhan said, in such a ruthless, cold-blooded tone, “You’re useless now. Why would I keep you around?!”
“Yi Wenhan, you’ll pay for murder!” Song Zhizhi roared in rage.
“Heh.” Yi Wenhan sneered, “Song Zhizhi caught in the act of adultery, overwhelmed by shame, she committed suicide in front of her lover. Look, such a justifiable reason!”
Song Zhizhi couldn’t believe that this cold-blooded devil before her eyes was once the man she loved deeply; the man who had ever vowed to marry no one but her, and he was pushing her over the railing of the hotel rooftop… without showing any mercy!
Regrettably, she wasn’t able to pull Yi Wenhan down with her.
She was filled with hatred.
Hatred to her very bones.
She, Song Zhizhi, the esteemed daughter of the top chief finance officer Song Shan of Yanshang Country, was loved by all yet brought calamity upon her entire family, leading to their unfair deaths. She refused to accept this!
If she could come back to life, if she could start over, she would make sure they would all die miserable deaths!
