My Medical Skills Give Me Experience Points Chapter 522

Gao Jian must have been paying close attention to him.

Because in the two meetings they had, Gao Jian could accurately recount the recent remarkable achievements of Zhou Can.

Previously, Zhou Can regarded Gao Jian as a formidable competitor.

Now, as his abilities have grown stronger and he’s rapidly filling the gaps in his basic medical knowledge, he no longer pays much attention to Gao Jian.

Life is about continuously striving to surpass one competitor after another, leaving them far behind.

While filling out the form, Dr. Xia Ping, having finished his tasks, came in.

"Dr. Chi, have the procedures for Zhou Can’s entry into the department been completed?"

It seems Dr. Xia Ping was indeed still plotting around Zhou Can.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t be so keen to inquire.

"Just let him finish the form. I heard that the patient in bed 51 you were overseeing had a complication, is everything alright now?" Everyone being doctors in the same department, they were quite familiar with each other.

"Don’t even mention it, today we really owe it to that young man Zhou Can, it was almost a disaster."

After sitting down at his desk, Xia Ping took a sip of water to moisten his throat.

"Quick, tell me about it! Seeing how relaxed you look, it seems the issue must have been resolved."

Dr. Chi became interested immediately.

He also knew about the patient in bed 51. This patient had undergone several examinations but they couldn’t determine the source of the bleeding.

They only knew the patient had rectal bleeding, definitely from the gastrointestinal tract.

But they couldn’t pinpoint the exact location.

Just this morning upon arriving at the hospital, he heard about the sudden shock experienced by the patient in bed 51, who was rushed to the intervention room for emergency treatment. He was originally quite worried about the patient.

He was especially curious about where exactly the bleeding was from and how it was resolved.

"You wouldn’t believe it, the patient was actually bleeding due to a gastrointestinal stromal tumor of the small intestine. No wonder we conducted colonoscopy, even used a capsule endoscopy, yet still couldn’t find the bleeding spot. How could we?"

Xia Ping was still somewhat emotional discussing this.

"So how was it finally discovered? I heard that the patient was already in shock by then, it must have been quite frantic for you, right?"

Dr. Chi, realizing the disease, showed a look of sudden realization on his face.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors, known as the ghost killers of gastrointestinal diseases, are incredibly difficult to detect.

"Thanks to Dr. Zhou, who reminded me to perform an angiographic examination of the digestive tract right away. Hey, it was spot on." As Xia Ping spoke, he gratefully glanced at Zhou Can. "By the way, Dr. Zhou was busy helping to save that patient, the department didn’t mark him as late, right?"

"No, no, Dr. Luo has already informed me about that."

Dr. Chi hurriedly clarified, he would not play the villain.

"Um... Who will mentor Dr. Zhou?" Xia Ping grinned mischievously, inquiring about this.

"Haha, seems I’m not the only one aiming for Dr. Zhou! Alas, Director Shang had already reserved him, no point in us thinking about it!" Dr. Chi laughed heartily.

He felt somewhat psychologically balanced.

He wasn’t the only one unable to secure Zhou Can.

"Director Shang is well-informed; he must have known long ago how outstanding Dr. Zhou is, that’s why he acted early. I envy him for having such a good assistant! I had one mentorship slot left and was thinking of making a call to get Zhou Can over, but it’s no use now!"

Xia Ping sighed, shaking his head.

After being promoted to attending physician, one would obtain the qualification to mentor.

Interns, after all, are free labor.

Competent attending physicians often have several interns assisting them.

Residents are slightly more advanced and can handle more advanced tasks.

Therefore, don’t be fooled by attending and director physicians who often keep a stern face, scolding and teaching their interns and residents. But these free labor forces are extremely significant for them.

When the hospital evaluates the mentorship of a teacher, if any violations are found, it will transfer an intern away from that doctor.

For those who violate repeatedly or fail the assessments, interns will continue to be transferred until none are left.

Well-performing mentors usually get more mentee slots.

From this aspect, the number of interns and residents a doctor has signifies, in part, their work capabilities.

"Old Xia, you’re not speaking ill of me, are you?"

A hearty middle-aged male voice spoke up, followed by a middle-sized, slightly plump middle-aged male doctor who entered the office. With a round face and a light, amiable smile that still retained some majesty.

This must be Director Shang of the Digestive Internal Medicine.

A department could have multiple director physicians, but only one department director.

The department director is an administrative position and does not necessarily reflect the level of medical expertise.

In some departments, even attending physicians might serve as department directors.

Management skills and coordination abilities are key for a department director role. Normally, however, those capable of being a department director do not lack medical expertise.

"Me, speak ill of you? I was saying how wise and visionary you are, to have reserved Zhou Can early. You have no idea how exceptional he was today..."

Dr. Xia Ping, who appeared quite arrogant in front of junior doctors, entirely changed his demeanor in front of Director Shang.

It wasn’t exactly flattery or sycophancy, but he definitely didn’t skimp on the requisite praises.

Such are the rules for survival in the workplace.

Even the most untamed characters gradually learn how to survive.

"Oh, it seems the rumors are indeed true! I heard Dr. Zhou has a tradition, whenever he enters a new department, he always seeks to accomplish something significant as an introductory gift. It seems his rotation to our Digestive Internal Medicine is no exception!"
