Ain’t no way I was letting Rose’s army perish at the hands of the undead. Something told me these guys weren’t just trouble in the demon realm—they’d be a nightmare in the human world too.
Not that I care much about the human world itself, but I can’t just stand by and let it fall to demons. There are still plenty of MILFs I haven’t slept with yet, and I’ve got family and friends I wouldn’t want getting hurt.
I poured all my strength into activating a powerful barrier, surrounding us while leaving the undead outside.
Rose shot me a scowl before glancing back at the wounded soldiers she was healing.
I pulled up my system and purchased a bottle of healing potion, handing it to one of the demons to see if it worked on them. The moment he drank it, his wounds vanished.
The others gasped, eyes widening at the potion’s effectiveness—it worked even faster than Rose’s magic.
Without hesitation, I bought more potions, spending over five thousand points in my system store. At 500 points a bottle, it wasn’t cheap, but the results were worth it. Even those with broken limbs regenerated instantly.
"Wow... what kind of potion is this, human?"
"It’s insanely effective!"
"Even my mana is fully restored!"
The demons’ amazement was almost comical. Meanwhile, Rose clicked her tongue, glaring at me before sighing. "Thank you," she muttered.
"No problem. But tell me, what’s really going on? Why have you been so pissed at me lately?"
Outside my barrier, the undead hammered against it, trying to break through. So far, it held firm, but Nathan’s attacks were another story. Each strike shook the barrier violently—I knew it wouldn’t last much longer.
Rose sat down with a dark expression. "It all started the day you left with that Priestess. The barrier between the human world and the demon realm has been weakening ever since. At first, we didn’t know why. But—" she paused, meeting my eyes, "—recently, we’ve been sensing your presence, but only for milliseconds before it vanishes. Every time that happens, the barrier cracks. It can repair itself, but sometimes the cracks take too long to close, and that allowed an infernal necromancer named Berial to escape into the human world."
I frowned. "Wait... you’re saying I’m the reason the barrier is breaking?"
"Pretty much. Every time you teleport, you’re first taken through the demon realm before reaching your destination, which means you’ll break the barrier getting in, and break it getting out. You’re the only being in existence that can freely travel between both worlds. But that’s simply against the natural order of the world. And that’s what’s been weakening the barrier all along."
Shit. My teleportation skill caused all of this? Even the undead attacks on the kingdom... all because of me?
"I’m sorry," I said quietly.
"Don’t apologize to me," Rose replied. "Just help us clean up this mess. But I wonder if it’s already too late. The infernal demons have a new leader now since we killed Draegonoth. And either him or his soldiers helped Berial escape my prison. Whoever they are, they’re bad news. And thanks to you, Berial is now even more powerful."
I tensed. "Thanks to me? Why? How did I make him stronger? I don’t get it." I asked, perplexed.
Before Rose could answer, a female demon ran up to us. "My Queen! Asher’s barrier is about to break! Nathan’s attacks are too strong!"
"You’re a general commander, Agatha! Take charge!" Rose ordered. Agatha immediately commanded the demons to form a defensive formation around my barrier, preparing for the worst.
Then Rose turned back to me.
"Asher... why do you think demons are always so eager to invade the human world?"
I shrugged. "I don’t know. World domination?"
She sighed. "Demons are built differently from humans. You’re weak, and that weakness is what makes demons stronger. You’ve heard that demon lords are the most powerful beings in the demon realm, right? Do you know why?"
I shook my head.
"To become a demon lord, one must conquer all other demon species. When weaker demons realize they can’t defeat you, they begin to worship you out of fear. That fear is converted into power. The stronger a demon lord is feared, the more powerful they become. When Berial attacked the human world, he wasn’t just causing destruction—he was implanting fear into the humans. That fear gave him immense energy, which is why he can control the undead for so long. If he ever runs out of power, he’ll return to the human world to absorb more fear."
I listened intently as Rose explained. Demons were truly terrifying. The way they gained power was terrifying.
But if stopping using my teleportation technique meant preventing them from ever invading the human world again, then I’d do it.
Still... that would also mean I wouldn’t be able to see Rose and the others whenever I wanted.
Well, no matter. It’s for the best. I’ll just make sure I spend this last bit of time with them to the fullest.
I extended a hand toward Rose. "I’m sorry for all the trouble. But let’s show these infernals who rules this place."
She smirked and took my hand, standing up. "Still cocky as ever, huh?"
I grinned. "You know the drill."
I checked my Pleasure Points—only 1200 left. I had been using a lot lately. And since my magic had been ineffective against the undead, I needed something that’d work on them— a cursed weapon.
That’s when I remembered the red demon sword in my item box. Drawing it out, I took my stance.
"Rose," I muttered, "I’ll give it my all in this fight."
She scoffed. "Well, you better. Cleaning up your own mess takes effort."
"But my magic is low. If I’m going all out, you have to promise me one thing." I muttered.
She raised an eyebrow. "And what’s that?"
I smirked. "You’ll help me restore my magic, right? And I take it you haven’t forgotten how I do that."
She gulped audibly, her face turning red. "I’ll... think about it."
"That’s not very reassuring."
"Fine!" she groaned. "I’ll let you do whatever you want! Just win this battle first, okay?!"
I chuckled. "Now that’s what I’m talking about."
I was pumped. Winning this battle was important, sure. But being allowed to do whatever I wanted to Rose?
Now that was a reward worth fighting for.
