My Mysterious Hidden Husband Chapter 139

Sheila Yardley didn’t understand what Caleb Grant was up to, but she thought he might be able to save Julian Yardley. She didn’t dare to upset him, yet she didn’t want to reveal too much about herself either. So she just replied, "...a bit."

Caleb Grant didn’t press further and continued smoking.

Sheila Yardley, growing anxious, got back to the main topic, "Do you really have a way to save my brother?"

He replied, "As long as you want to save him."

He brushed off the ash that accidentally fell on his pants and said, "Wait for my call tomorrow morning."

The short trip took just a few conversations before they reached the hospital.

The car stopped, but Sheila Yardley didn’t get out immediately. She was skeptical of Caleb Grant’s statement.

She didn’t know what he could do to solve the problem, but since she was at her wit’s end and he was willing to help, it was a glimmer of hope.

She just didn’t understand, "Why are you helping me?"

Caleb Grant didn’t answer her question, only glanced outside to remind her, "We’re here."

Sheila Yardley couldn’t figure out this man. He just said he would help without asking for anything in return. Was it really out of goodwill?

She didn’t ask further and got out of the car. She was unsure about the reliability of Caleb Grant’s words. Did waiting for his call mean he would discuss a plan tomorrow, or would he have already taken action to free Julian Yardley by then?

Ryder Griffin went abroad for an important exam, so Sheila Yardley didn’t want to burden him with these issues or distract him.

Considering the time difference, she rarely called so as not to disturb his rest.

Because of Julian Yardley’s situation, Sheila Yardley didn’t sleep well all night. She even thought if there was no other way, she might plead with Lynn Kendall; perhaps there was still a chance to save him.

The next morning, Shannon Quinn and Aidan Lockwood coincidentally arrived at the police station. When they got there, Sheila Yardley was already waiting outside in the hallway, seemingly for a while.

"How’s it going?" Shannon Quinn walked over to ask Sheila Yardley.

Sheila Yardley shook her head, "I still don’t know."

Aidan Lockwood asked her, "Did you come so early? Have you had breakfast?"

Not wanting to trouble them further, Sheila Yardley nodded, "I ate."

In truth, she wasn’t in the mood to eat. She still hadn’t seen Julian Yardley and didn’t know how things were.

"How’s Lynn Kendall’s condition? Is it serious?" Sheila Yardley asked.

Aidan Lockwood nodded, "She’s waiting for surgery and probably won’t be discharged anytime soon."

Sheila Yardley pursed her lips as if wanting to say something but felt too embarrassed to speak.

Aidan Lockwood noticed her thoughts and reassured her, "The company also bears some responsibility for this incident, so the expenses during Lynn Kendall’s hospital stay will be covered by the company. You don’t need to worry."

Sheila Yardley, filled with guilt, said, "It’s all because of my brother. By rights, we should compensate."

But asking her to pay now was impossible. Aidan Lockwood likely considered her circumstances, yet he didn’t want her to feel indebted, so he claimed it was the company’s responsibility.

Shannon Quinn gently patted Sheila Yardley’s back and said, "Just consider it as owing Professor Lockwood a favor, and repay it slowly later. Don’t take it too hard."

Whether it was gratitude or something else, Sheila Yardley’s eyes welled up uncontrollably, and she hastily wiped away her tears to avoid appearing undignified: "Really, thank you both, for always helping me. Yet here I go bringing you more trouble."

"A grown-up like you crying and sniffling, isn’t it embarrassing?"

The voice came from behind, and they all turned to see Julian Yardley walking over unscathed.

Shannon Quinn and Aidan Lockwood exchanged glances, unsure of what had happened.

Sheila Yardley hesitated for a moment, then quickly walked to Julian Yardley’s side, anxiously inspecting him up and down: "Are you okay?"

Julian Yardley looked at her red eyes and joked lightly, "What could possibly happen to me? Serving tea and pouring water here is quite enjoyable."

"Then now you..." Before finishing, Sheila Yardley saw Caleb Grant coming out of the room. He glanced at her but didn’t greet her, just focused on his phone and walked past.

Julian Yardley reached out and messed up her hair, "Stop nagging, let’s go home."

Sheila Yardley looked at him incredulously and asked, "You can go back, too?"

"What else? You want me to live here?"

Upon hearing this result, the fear and worry in Sheila Yardley’s heart suddenly settled. Yet tears kept streaming down uncontrollably. She raised her hand and hit Julian Yardley, crying uncontrollably: "Can’t you think about the consequences of your actions? If you were really imprisoned, what would happen to Mom and me?!"

Julian Yardley seemed unsure about dealing with women’s tears. Faking impatience, he frowned and put an arm around her shoulder, "Okay, okay, it’s nothing. Crying early in the morning is unlucky, so hold back those tears!"

Sheila Yardley sniffed and lectured him while looking up: "Never be so reckless again!"

"Alright, alright, I’ll change, I’ll change." Julian Yardley said, his gaze unintentionally flicked to Shannon Quinn, his face turned slightly unnatural, and with a bit of pride in his voice, said, "What are you doing here?"

Shannon Quinn glared at him, embodying the role of an elder sister as she scolded him: "Your family relies on you as the man of the house. It felt satisfying when you hit someone, but if they really locked you up, who would take care of your sister and mother?"

"Is it your place to lecture me? Mind your own business!" Julian Yardley feigned indifference, his eyes quietly glancing at Shannon Quinn’s wrist, where the long sweater covered it, obscuring whether she wore the bracelet he gave her.

"Don’t talk to Shannon like that, show some manners!"

"Alright, you women are so chatty. How about you all head home and leave me in peace here?"

Sheila Yardley rolled her eyes at him. This time it was a close call, and she hoped it would be a lesson for him, preventing similar mistakes in the future.

Speaking of which, she hadn’t thanked Caleb Grant yet.

Internally, she had doubts about his motives. Why was he helping her so much?

She couldn’t figure out that man, but she was grateful to him. No matter what, twice he had saved her from deep waters and scorching flames.

Shannon Quinn had arranged to go to the hospital for a check-up with Silas Kerr and also visit Lynn Kendall.

She likely spent a lot on plastic surgery, and now Lynn Kendall’s face was nearly ruined by Julian Yardley’s punches. Anyone would be furious over such an incident.

When Shannon Quinn went to see her, she heard Lynn Kendall’s angry voice from outside the hospital room. Follow current novᴇls on novel★fire.net
