It was at that moment David came back to his senses.
Looking up into Annie’s almost fiery eyes, he quickly tried to remedy the situation, "Mom, that’s not what I meant. I meant that even though I’ve broken up with her, our two families’ engagement could still continue."
Mrs. Benington looked puzzled, "How could it continue?"
David hesitated a while longer, then resolved to say, "When the engagement was set, it was agreed that if the Lawrence family had a daughter, I would marry that daughter. Mom, Annie is also the Lawrence family’s daughter."
