Chapter 208: Assassinated (Part Two)
At Family Mu’s Hospital, Shangguan Ning waited outside the emergency room with a pale face. Her beautiful, bright eyes seemed to be totally lifeless and dull. There were traces of Yichen’s blood still visible on her face. On her light purple dress, there were “flowers” everywhere that had been made by Jing Yichen’s blood.
His blood felt hot, burning her heart and stinging her eyes, suffocating her.
She couldn’t describe the feeling when he had stood between her and the bullet.
There was a man in this world who could love her so much without caring about his own life that he would face death so boldly. He had turned around and kept her safe till he collapsed in case if another bullet came afterwards, exposing his own back to the killer.
His tall figure looked so calm as if the bullet had not hit him.
Shangguan Ning would have preferred that the bullet hit her instead of him and that she was the injured one.
He didn’t want her to get injured, but she didn’t want him to get injured too.
The emergency light in the operating room was still on. There were many people inside.
Shangguan Ning was panicking from within. She had not felt like this since she had lost her mother.
He had bled so much, just like her mother did. Her mother’s blood had dyed her clothes and the floor until she had no blood left inside any longer. She had left her. Would Jing Yichen do the same?
She didn’t dare to think any further.
If she lost him, she would follow his footsteps.
Tiger and Lee Duo stood by Shangguan Ning’s side respectively. Both of them felt bad seeing her grieve like this. They had been by Jing Yichen’s side for so long, through life and death. They had been treated as brothers by Jing Yichen and enjoyed a deep friendship with each other. Their hearts also ached for Jing Yichen and they wanted to grab hold of the shooter and kill him.
They were in charge of Jing Yichen and Shangguan Ning’s safety, but Master had been attacked fatally. If they had been a bit closer and reacted a bit faster, Master might not have been shot. They would have preferred that the bullet hit them.
What awaited them would be very strict punishment from Family Jing, but they didn’t dare to keep it to themselves, so they informed Jing Zhongxiu the moment Master was shot. Jing Zhongxiu was Master’s father and the controller of Family Jing at the moment. He must be the first one to be informed when Master was in fatal danger.
Also, only he had the ability of finding out the killer who had apparently aimed at the Lady. He would make another attempt because he had failed the first time. He must be found quickly, or the Lady would continue to be in a dangerous situation as well.
Jing Zhongxiu arrived quickly. The moment he entered the hospital, he walked towards the emergency room.
His heart had started to palpitate when he heard Jing Yichen had been attacked. He put down whatever he was doing and started to organize the team to find out the killer whilst reaching the hospital as fast as he could.
He was furious. Suddenly, he looked completely different from his usual introverted self.
Who was that?
Who was it that dared to touch his son, his beloved elder son?
Shangguan Ning didn’t notice when Jing Zhongxiu arrived. Her eyes and heart was stuck to the emergency room.
Tiger and Lee Duo saw him first. They both kneeled down in front of him and said, “Lord, we failed to keep Master safe, please punish us!”
Jing Zhongxiu looked cold. His voice sounded as cold as the ice in winter. “Get up now. You will be punished when Master is awake.”
He said it with conviction that Master would wake up. It was as if he was certain that his son would be fine.
Only now did Shangguan Ning look up at Jing Zhongxiu and said feebly. “Father, you are here…”
Jing Zhongxiu’s heart ached at the sight of her. But he nodded without saying anything and strode towards the emergency room. He came out of the room after a while, looking serious.
He sat down next to Shangguan Ning and spoke softly, “Ning, I just went in there and checked. Don’t worry, Yichen will be fine!”
His calm tone brought hope to Shangguan Ning. She looked at him through her swollen eyes. “Really, father? Yichen will be fine?”
Jing Zhongxiu patted her shoulders softly and said, “Yes, he will be fine. Otherwise Mu Qing’s grandfather, Mu Wensheng would have been the one inside the operating theatre right now. Although he doesn’t seem to be completely stable, at least we can see that Mu Qing is being able to control the situation. You may not know this, but he has been spared by death many times, and always comes back. So he will make it this time too, I am sure!”
Shangguan Ning’s heart ached as if being ripped by numerous blades. He had been spared by death many times? He had been confronted by death many times?
But he had never mentioned anything to her.
She spoke in a hoarse voice laden with guilt, “Father, today he is injured because of me. The bullet was meant for me but he came and stood in-between. I wish that the bullet had hit me instead so that he didn’t have to get injured…”
“He is a man and if he had withdrawn at that moment, then he won’t be the heir of Family Jing. Ning, don’t think too much, go and sleep in the room next door and when you wake up, Yichen will wake up too.”
“No, father, I want to wait for him right here. I don’t want to leave him!” Shangguan Ning objected instantly, looking very determined.
Jing Zhongxiu had no choice but to allow her to wait in the corridor.
He stood up and told Tiger and Lee Duo, “It is not safe here till the time the killer isn’t found. Make sure the lady is fine. If anything happens to her, you will not live either. Don’t let anyone know about Jing Yichen’s condition, especially the old lady and the old lord.”
Tiger and Lee Duo nodded in unison. Then they resumed their positions next to Shangguan Ning, guarding her.
Jing Zhongxiu looked at Shangguan Ning who was covered in blood, one last time, then he walked out of the hospital without looking back.
He wasn’t going to forgive anyone who had dared to hurt his son.
Had he, Jing Zhongxiu, been forgotten in A City because he had stayed calm for so long?
