Jing Yichen loved it when Shangguan Ning asked for something unreasonable or reckless. He loved that he could fulfill her demands – he was aware of his own ability. He was powerful enough to fill up a hole in the sky,if she ever poked open the heavens.
He caressed her smooth, long hair and asked her to be careful while he passed her the lighter.
Shangguan Ning rolled her eyes at him, lit up a firecracker and threw it away.
The cracker went off with a bang and red paper crumbs flew everywhere.
“This firecracker is meant for children. Its loud but harmless. It won’t hurt me! Why don’t you give it a try yourself?”
Seeing her having so much fun, Jing Yichen laughed as he took a firecracker and did the same.
The two adults played just like the group of children that were playing earlier. They kept throwing one firecracker after another, totally unaware of their childlike behaviour. Which was a good thing because this time together brought them pure joy.
At last, when Shangguan Ning and Jing Yichen went home, they felt quite relaxed after having such a good time.
It was late at night and it was time for bed.
Dressed in pajamas, Jing Yichen carried Shangguan Ningfrom her bedroom to their bedroom.
Shangguan Ning didn’t struggle. She didn’t require separate bedrooms anymore. Instead, she slept comfortably in Jing Yichen’s arms.
Jing Yichen was very thankful for this Chinese New Year. He had given up hope of them ever sharing a bed again.
He carefully held her in his arms. The touch of the bodies, as well as the visual impact of seeing Shangguan Ning asleep in his arms, made Jing Yichen almost lose his control again.
Jing Yichen couldn’t help but chuckle with disdain as he noticed his arousal.
How come she always managed to break his strong defense system so easily.
There had been a time in the past when he had started to suspect his own “ability” because he never took interest in girls.
Now, there was no such doubt.
This couple, who had been drifting through life for a long time, fell asleep in each other’s arms on this sweet night.
The door of their bedroom was opened early morning the next day by two people who walked in while Shangguan Ning and Jing Yichen were still asleep.
Jing Yichen was relatively more aware and opened his eyes instantly when he sensed that something was wrong.
However, before he was able to gauge the situation, someone lifted the blanket he was sleeping in.
“You bad boy! How dare you not come home for Chinese New Year? Did you think that I, your grandma, am nothing more than a decoration? Old man, come here and get this heartless grandson home for a spanking.” Mo Lan, Jing Yichen’s grandmother, had a very high pitched voice which even shook the crystal chandeliers on the ceiling.
Shangguan Ning was woken up by her loud voice.
The first thing that she saw was an old lady who had lifted their blanket. A reluctant looking old man stood beside her. Both of them were staring at her, dumbfoundedly.
Shangguan Ning let out a scream and tried to hide herself in Jing Yichen’s arms.
Jing Yichen was upset at the sight of the old lady.
He grabbed the blanket back angrily and covered up Shangguan Ning as he comfortingly said, “It’s alright, they are grandpa and grandma. Don’t be scared.”
With hands still clenching the blanket tightly, Shangguan Ning buried her head under the pillow.
She was not scared. She was ashamed!
She had only knee-length pajamas on her and she was entwined with a half-naked Jing Yichen when the blanket had been lifted by none other than his grandma.
She was embarrassed beyond description.
Ignoring the petrified old man and old lady, Jing Yichen whispered to her, “My wife, you rightly said yesterday that we are legally married. Then why do you act if we were caught in the middle of an affair…”
Shangguan Ning flushed even more hearing his words, and kept her head under the blanket, refusing to look up.
She did intend to greet Jing Yichen’s grandparents, but she lacked the courage to climb out of bed, given the current situation.
Jing Yichen was aware of her feelings so he patted her gently and got out of the bed to drive away these uninvited visitors .
“Intruding upon someone’s home is illegal. Remember to knock at the door next time you come over. Please leave if you have nothing else to say.”
Jing Yichen’s tone was cold and distant, showing no submissiveness at the sight of seniors.
The old lady was already used to her grandson’s behaviour. She was more shocked by what she had just witnessed than by what her grandson just said.
She pinched her husband violently and he let out a painful scream. “What are you doing?”
The old lady held her heart and said delightedly, “Ahh, old man, am I dreaming? Did I just see my grandson sharing his bed with a girl?”
Shangguan Ning, who was still under the blanket, heard what the old lady said. She was so embarrassed that she wished that she could bury herself into the ground.
Jing Tianyuan, Jing Yichen’s grandfather remarked annoyedly, “Mo Lan, how many times do I have to tell you – you don’t need to pinch me if you suspect that you are dreaming? Yichen is a man, would you rather he sleep with a man instead? You are always worried about him. He is more than 30 years old, not a child anymore. Let’s go home now. I hadn’t even fed my lovely canary because of being dragged here by you.”
Although he sounded annoyed, yet his gaze wouldn’t leave Jing Yichen. Apparently, he was both surprised and happy to see his grandson with a girlfriend. His boy had finally grown up. In that case, they needn’t worry about not having an heir for Family Jing!
Jing Yichen put on a robe and gently led them outside.
“Please go home, you two.”
Sensing her grandson’s displeasure, the old lady finally came to her senses. She grabbed Jing Yichen’s hands and said. “My handsome grandson, when did you get a girlfriend? Why didn’t you tell me earlier? I was so worried. Oh my god, lucky for you that I didn’t bring a young prospective bride with me, otherwise it would have looked very bad. How old is your lady friend? What does she like? Please expect some gifts from me later.”
An impatient Jing Yichen replied with a blurry “okay”, turned around and was about to go back inside, when the old lady grabbed hold of him.
She removed the jade bracelet from her wrist and stuffed it into Jing Yichen’s hand. She said smilingly, “I won’t disturb you now. Give this jade bracelet to your girlfriend as a first-time gift. I will come again when it is convenient for both of you!”
“Ah also, treat the girl well. You never take the effort to answer my questions and you always have this cold expression on your face. Even a volcano would freeze over, by your nonchalant attitude.”
“Remember, girls tend to enjoy being pampered. If you don’t know how to pamper her, buy everything for her. We have enough money anyways. Pamper her whenever you quarrel with each other. You should learn from your grandpa, he was…”
Jing Tianyuan immediately started to cough when he realised that his wife was going to use him as an example. Mo Lan couldn’t stand this behaviour of her husband.. coughing so dreadfully. She wanted to say something more but she was sure Jing Yichen wasn’t interested in hearing any of it.
“I know! You need not say anything more. Please go home.” He said to the old lady, turned around and walked into the bedroom.
