Chapter 148 - Tailing in Secret
“It's getting late. Everyone, go back to sleep.”
The night grew deeper. Lin Fan escorted Zhou Yan and Lu Zhai, as well as Longye and the others, out the door.
“Little friend, next time we'll have a rematch!”
Lu Zhai pushed up his glasses, his expression serious and earnest.
He had dueled with Mokui all day. They had traded wins and losses, and it was difficult to tell who was the superior player!
This was the first time he had ever met his match in a fighting game!
“Okay, big brother! I'll be ready for you anytime~”
Mokui smiled confidently, waving goodbye to Lu Zhai, still feeling like she hadn't had enough.

Zhou Yan waved goodbye to Lin Fan, then he and Lu Zhai turned and walked down the stairs.

“You all should go back and rest too.”

Long Yue smiled slightly, watching her go back to the next-door apartment with Longye and the others.
Before, she had been completely unwilling to live next door with Meizhi and the others. But tonight, she was willing to go back with them on her own initiative. It seemed she was gradually adapting to her current life.

Lin Fan watched An Yao's retreating back as she entered the apartment next door, his gaze holding a hint of deeper meaning.
Long Yue noticed Lin Fan's gaze and asked with confusion.
“It's nothing. Let's head back too.”
Lin Fan shook his head, took her hand, and turned to go back inside.
In the apartment next door, Longye and the others each went back to their own rooms.
An Yao lay quietly on her makeshift bed on the living room floor, her eyes fixed on the ceiling. From time to time, she would glance at the bedrooms on either side, as if she were waiting for something.
After the lights in both bedrooms had gone out, her face lit up. She threw off her quilt, tiptoed to Longye's door, and pressed her ear against it.
Meizhi was still out working tonight, so only Longye was in that room. It was completely quiet inside, without a single sound.
After confirming one was asleep, An Yao again tiptoed to the room where Mokui and Yingnü were.
Having lost all her spiritual energy and cultivation, she was unable to completely conceal her aura and could only do her best not to make any sound.
Although the lights were off in Mokui and Yingnü's room, Mokui's delicate shouts could still be heard:
“Wait for my engage!”
This hateful demon! She spent all day playing games next door, and now that she's back, she's still playing!

An Yao impatiently got up again and pressed her ear to their door. After confirming there was no more noise from inside, she silently walked to the front door and gently turned the deadbolt knob.
The lock opened with a crisp metallic sound.
An Yao's heart skipped a beat. She cautiously turned her head to look at the two bedrooms.
Seeing no movement from either room, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She hadn't expected this damn door to make such a loud noise when it unlocked.
Good thing they were all asleep and didn't notice…
An Yao gently opened the door, slipped outside, and then quietly pulled the door shut, leaving the apartment.
And the very next second after she left, the doors to both bedrooms opened in unison. Longye, Mokui, and the others walked out of their rooms and looked toward the front door.
Longye: “Looks like the little girl from the Immortal Race couldn't hold it in any longer.”
Mokui: “Lord Demon Sovereign was right. This little girl from the Immortal Race is definitely hiding something from us.”
Longye turned his head to look at Mokui and suggested:
“Should This King go and slaughter her?”
“Inappropriate. No matter what, she's still Madam's person. We can't just kill her like that.”
Mokui shook her head, rejecting Longye's suggestion without hesitation.
Longye thought about it, felt that what Mokui said made sense, and changed his question:
“Then should This King go capture her and bring her back for Lord Demon Sovereign to deal with?”
“Also inappropriate.”
Mokui again shook her head in opposition.
“Lord Demon Sovereign told us to keep an eye on her. He must want to see what tricks she's up to.”
“Why don't we see what she's going to do, then report to Lord Demon Sovereign and let him decide.”
As she spoke, without turning her head, Mokui instructed Yingnü beside her:
“Yingnü, you follow her. See where she goes and what she does in secret.”
Yingnü nodded. In an instant, she melted into the shadows, transforming into a black streak that slipped out from under the crack of the door.
After leaving the apartment, An Yao hailed a cab at the complex gate and headed straight for a forested, mountainous area outside the suburbs.
“Young lady, why are you taking a cab to such a remote place so late at night? It's very dangerous.”
The veteran driver glanced at the destination on the GPS and couldn't help but ask curiously.
“None of your business, mortal. Just get me there.”
An Yao said with a stern, serious expression.
Hearing An Yao's form of address, the driver was taken aback. For a moment, he couldn't help but recall a man and a woman he had given a ride to several months ago.
That woman was incredibly beautiful and kept referring to herself as 'This Empress.' She also seemed to call him 'mortal' and even treated him like a servant. He had thought it was very strange at the time.
Only a few months have passed, and now he's run into another one of these weird female passengers...
It seems I should drive the night shift less in the future...
Worried that she might be a mental patient, the driver didn't dare say any more, silently shutting his mouth and starting the car.
The moment the car started, a black shadow instantly scaled the vehicle and flashed across the rear windshield.
An Yao whipped her head around, but saw nothing.
She felt as if something was just behind her…?
As the car sped down the road, Yingnü sat quietly on the roof, hugging her knees, her back to the direction of travel…
