Mythology Rebooted Chapter 123

"That makes sense, that’s it!"

"It must be this way!"

Wayne found a reason to comfort himself and was instantly overjoyed, "A third-rate spy, pah, a third-rate detective, who only knows how to buy merchandise and write trashy novels, wouldn’t have such complex settings. I’m definitely overthinking this."

"Master Wayne, where should this suitcase be delivered?" the maid asked at the door.

"To the new house..."

A hitch in Wayne’s heart led to a sudden surge of panic that his secret might be discovered. Waving his hand, he said, "Never mind, I’ll take care of the suitcase myself. I’ll clean the second and third floors personally, you go check the first-floor office for anything we might have missed."

Obeying his command, the maid left. Wayne was already sweating profusely, caught off guard by the sudden development. Although it had nothing to do with him, he couldn’t help feeling guilty.

"It must be me overthinking things. A spy needs to maintain regular contact; I haven’t used the radio for so long and no handlers have contacted me..."

Wayne’s words trailed off mid-sentence, silent.

To the casual observer, locating him in recent months would not be an easy task.

"It doesn’t matter anymore, I’ve entered the Magic World, I’m no longer an ordinary person. The grudges of this world have nothing to do with me." Wayne’s brows furrowed. He was him, and the original person was the original person; it was the perfect time to fully abandon the past with this move.

Besides, he was now a mage, could the other party still track him down?

Here, have a concrete barrel!

Wayne thoroughly inspected the second-floor bedroom and the archive room to ensure there were no suspicious items, then went to the backyard to bury the briefcase underground, instructing Ah Bin to hide it well.

He didn’t want his past identity; all he wanted now was to focus on money and magic.

Wayne sat on the living room sofa with a melancholic face, the new development had come too suddenly. In this war-enveloped context, he feared that someone might turn up at his door to deliver a pair of silver bracelets.

"On the bright side, Windsor’s intelligence agencies know all they need to know, it’s just a joke, as long as I don’t talk, no one else will know..."

"Master Wayne, are you troubled?" the former Windsor Intelligence Personnel, Butler Philark, holding a pot of tea, had somehow appeared beside Wayne.

"There are some matters on my mind."

Seeing Philark, Wayne felt a lot more at ease and sought advice, "Butler, have you ever been in a very awkward situation?"

"I’m not quite sure how to describe it, that kind of situation where, because of a complex identity, it can be ignored, but also cannot be ignored. So fearful of speaking out, not wanting it and yet not knowing who to refuse."

A pang hit Philark’s heart, his hand shaking slightly as he poured the tea, and after a long moment he said bitterly, "Master Wayne, I didn’t expect you to find out so quickly."

Are we even talking about the same thing?

Philark, have you been serving another master behind my back?

With a raised eyebrow, Wayne sniffed the tea and said gravely, "That’s right, I know everything. Out with it, there’s no one else here."

"You are truly perceptive to have noticed so quickly; I thought I could at least keep it hidden for a while."

Philark stood beside Wayne, his head bowed like a student who had made a mistake, "I’m very sorry, before I returned to Lundan, Lord Austin had asked me..."

"Hold on, the address is wrong, I don’t want to hear you calling someone else ’lord’." Wayne raised his hand to interrupt; Philark’s reference to Austin was unsettling to him.

"Mr. Austin got in touch with me. He asked me to continue to serve the Lando Family and to consider him my master as well, and to report your every move to him in real time." Philark did not hide anything; he did not want to lie to his master.

Philark’s face was filled with sorrow; he had lost his master’s trust and, if his prediction held true, he’d be on a train back to Enrold Town tonight.

Wayne stood up, straightened Philark’s collar, and said with a smile, "There’s a lot of time ahead of us, maybe you still belong to him now, but one day I’ll personally snatch you away."

Philark was visibly moved; even so, Wayne dared to trust him.

"I can’t find a better butler than you..."

"Mr. Lando might do without you, but I can’t!"
