The time had come to nighttime, and the two detectives returned to the manor.
Just as Kell had said, no one cared how Mr. Bart died, nor did anyone urge the detectives to solve the case quickly. They were merely tools for the family members to prove their innocence.
The night at the manor was exceptionally silent. Wayne and Kell walked through the deserted corridor, the latter taking out a bottle of mushrooms and asking Wayne if he wanted a bite.
Wayne ignored him, sensing someone approaching, he quickly moved and pressed himself against the corner of the corridor.
At the other end of the corridor, the maid Oga slowly approached, holding a lantern. The light cast on her white nightgown and pale face made her look like a ghost drifting forward without touching the ground.
"How about that, isn’t it scary? I was nearly scared to death by her on my first night here." Kell whispered, "Ever since I found out she walks around at night, she appears in the corridors every evening, she has too many suspicious points on her."
"Is it possible that she really just has somnambulism?"
"Try and we’ll know." Kell gripped the bottle of mushrooms and walked away from the corner towards Oga with big steps.
Oga’s eyes were as wide as brass bells, and as though she didn’t see Kell, she made no resistance to the fungi he fed her.
After feeding her the mushroom, Oga stopped in her tracks and stood still. Wayne stepped forward and waved his hand, the maid’s gaze slowly drifted towards him.
"Was it you who killed Mr. Bart?"
The maid shook her head.
"Was it Madam who killed Mr. Bart?"
The maid shook her head.
"Then, who is the killer, who actually killed Mr. Bart?"
Instead of shaking her head, the maid gave an unexpected answer, "Bart isn’t dead, he has always been in this house."
The maid’s face was deathly pale, her voice hoarse and aged, and her bulging eyes were eerily strange, completely different from those poor sods Wayne had seen before experience hallucinations after taking mushrooms.
Late at night, he began to doubt whether the maid was actually the Drifting Ghost?
A slap would make it clear whether she was a human or a ghost.
Wayne lifted his hand and pinched the maid’s cheek; cold, but not a corpse, let alone a Drifting Ghost.
"Hey, don’t go too far. We’re detectives, not perverts, and besides... that’s too ugly." Kell stopped Wayne’s teasing behavior.
Wayne rolled his eyes, "Oga is just flat, not ugly."
"Oh, you’re not denying the pervert part then!"
Wayne had no response, and Kell took over the questioning, "Where is Mr. Bart, take us to him."
"I don’t know, everyone’s looking for him, the Madam, the young master, the young lady, and me. We’ve searched for a month and haven’t found him," replied the maid Oga, who then bypassed Wayne and Kell, continuing to walk aimlessly forward.
"What about Mr. Bart’s corpse, then? I’ve seen the police records, he indeed died."
"The body was Bart’s double, who had served him for many years, not known to outsiders..."
"How do you, a maid, know so much?" Kell was a bit bewildered.
Oga stopped, turned around, and stared directly at Kell, uttering eerily, "I am his first wife, Madam Dana, who was killed by him ten years ago."
Kell was startled and jumped behind Wayne, taking out a Crucifix Necklace and babbling something to ward off the Malevolent Spirit.
"And you call yourself a Mage, you can’t even fool a ghost, no, you can’t fool anyone!"
Wayne shook his head, stepped forward, and with his fingers together as a blade, a swift karate chop put Oga down.
"See, this is how a real Mage performs an exorcism."
