The third wave of attack ended, and the fourth came swiftly on its heels.
Cracks spread across the ceiling, and white flesh rained down like a tide, far surpassing the infective and active properties of Dragon Blood Modification flesh. Sensing fresh life, it writhed forward toward the four of them.
The Star Beast’s flesh!
Philomena’s face turned sour. Having been duped and fooled before, she swiftly grabbed Wayne’s arm.
"It’s fine, I won’t leave."
Wayne tried to comfort her with gentle words, earning an eye roll. Philomena said, "This attack isn’t aimed at me, it’s you. I’m just a decoy. Someone wants to find out how you managed to reject the star pollution."
With her words, Wayne narrowed his eyes, remembering Austin’s instructions and feeling disgusted.
Fit for the Magic Department trash, looking down on even this societal refuse!
How could one build a better Windsor for tomorrow in the company of these vermin!
Philomena tightened her grip on Wayne’s arm: "Don’t move, the two of them will handle everything. The same tricks won’t work on me."
Wayne let out a light ’huh’ and couldn’t help his curiosity: "Don’t you want to see how I saved you back then?"
"There’s no rush. Once I have you, I will naturally find out."
Philomena glanced at Wayne with a sidelong, icy gaze, the Glamor Lady’s aura maxing out in an instant: "Secrets are worth the wait for the final reveal, aren’t they?"
Wayne swallowed hard in secret. No, this was the flutter of the heart. Was he about to lose?
Although Philomena hadn’t quite understood what it meant to be heartfelt, she was getting the hang of it, believing the situation was well in hand.
In the arena, the twins displayed a scene not intended for human eyes, swiftly moving about, pillaging the Star Beast’s flesh, assimilating with it through physical contact with the white flesh, drying out the white tide like sponges.
Wayne’s spirit revived; his eyes, sharp as torches, were fixed on the twins, intrigued by their inner workings and keen on dissecting for study.
Wayne knew himself well; he had never rejected contamination by the Star Beast. It wasn’t of a high enough class to pollute his Essence of Life.
Strictly speaking, he simply rejected low-level evolution.
To exaggerate a bit, he he had reversed the tide and contaminated the Star Beast’s flesh instead!
And the twins, what was their situation?
Wayne swallowed repeatedly until a pain in his arm made him flinch, followed by Philomena’s dissatisfied voice: "Don’t look at other women during a date. That’s the least respect you can show your partner."
Such an ambiguous statement. One might think we were dating!
Wayne sullenly retracted his gaze, waiting for the fifth onslaught.
However, it never came. The Star Beast was the final challenge, or perhaps the attacker had cut their losses in time. Thereafter, nothing else happened.
The twins returned to the High Priest’s side. Wayne examined them. Where had they put all that Star Beast flesh?
Another twinge in his arm didn’t bother Wayne. He smiled and said, "Vernar, Deit, thank you for your hard work. We haven’t introduced ourselves; I’m Wayne, a local from Lundan."
Look at that damn smirk of yours!
Philomena dragged Wayne away with a dark face, and once outside the Forbidden Magic Domain, she glanced at her watch: "It’s four in the afternoon. You have two hours to contact the Magic Department. I expect to see a candlelit dinner at six, and a movie screening after—don’t be late."
"Don’t worry, the Magic Department will definitely have an explanation for you."
Wayne was about to leave when Philomena caught his arm, extending her hand in front of him.
Life requires a sense of ritual!
Wayne thought inwardly, ’What a hassle,’ but as a gentleman, he bent over, lifting her delicate hand to kiss her fingertips.
The scene shifted. Wayne had contacted Austin, explaining the whole situation over the phone.
"That’s the situation. The High Priest is going crazy, and I’m about to go crazy. Have the Magic Department send someone else!"
"Did the building collapse?" Austin got straight to the point. With his own people, he didn’t need to beat around the bush. Just state your price.
"You should’ve brought the building down." Austin said with regret.
"That’s not good. What about all the precious antiques..."
"Next time, remember to make a bigger scene. You’re not Veronica. Don’t make me teach you such logic. I’ll handle the Magic Department. I demand fifty percent of your compensation." Austin dispensed lessons in societal refuse.
"You might as well rob me. Thirty percent, not a percent more!"
