Austin made Wayne snap out of his daydreams, stating solemnly, "Don’t leave Lundan for the time being. The minister will knight you in the Queen’s stead; on that day, I will arrange for you to officially become the heir of the Lando Family."
Wayne exclaimed in surprise, putting on an innocent face, "I thought you would drag it out a bit, after all... it also involves Veronica, the marriage contract... you know what I mean."
Austin’s expression darkened, and he waved off that topic with a gesture.
Admitting the marriage contract would be more painful than killing him.
So, the marriage contract was out of the question—it would be delayed if possible, and discussed only if it couldn’t be postponed any longer.
As for Wayne’s status as heir, Austin had it all figured out. Everyone outside said that Wayne was his illegitimate son. He had explained, but no one believed it, and it just so happened to be a good excuse.
Smart people are good at deceiving themselves. Knowing it was impossible, Austin still fooled himself with that excuse.
"Speaking of allies, I have a clue here."
Wayne said, "The Thousand-Eyed Demon, Obu’s partner, was killed. I’ve asked around, and it wasn’t the work of the Holy See. I suspect there’s another traitor in the Magic Department, hiding even more deeply than Obu."
Austin frowned. "I know. You don’t need to worry about that; the Magic Department will investigate. Just wait for the news."
Wayne also frowned. "That’s a bit too dismissive, isn’t it? My life is at risk. What if that traitor finds me?"
"The situation is complex, everyone is busy trying to tarnish Obu’s name, they’re all too occupied to bother with you now," Austin reassured Wayne, who was waiting impatiently for the matter to be settled.
"Are you sure?" Wayne doubted.
Seeing that Austin was unconcerned, Wayne was quite dissatisfied with his father-in-law. He was about to make a complaint when Austin interrupted him again.
"The Obelisk is gone, and the Ancient Silver Coin that belonged to Obu has been lost. These two items are the property of the Magic Department. To be honest, do you have them?" Austin scrutinized Wayne.
Wayne shook his head immediately. He had neither the ability to take away the Obelisk nor had he even seen the Ancient Silver Coin; this pot he would not carry.
"Good, these two items are important, and the Magic Department will not give up the pursuit," Austin warned, then lowered his head to play with an Ancient Silver Coin.
After Wayne left the study, Austin took out another Ancient Silver Coin.

Obu’s desperate efforts had alerted everyone; there were many uses for Ancient Silver Coins, and one shouldn’t be restricted by formality. With a bit of courage, anything was possible.
Austin agreed wholeheartedly, playing with the Ancient Silver Coin as he pondered over those other possibilities.
A sudden loud noise, and glass shattered.
Austin was startled, his face showing ecstatic joy as he hurried to the window and stuck his head out, grinning with his back teeth showing.
Today he didn’t fly, and that was the important point.

Wayne stepped out of the study, had just closed the door, when Veronica, who had been waiting, grabbed him by the collar.
He waved to Megan, to no avail; the butler looked blank, as if sleepwalking.
Veronica dragged Wayne to the end of the hallway, raised her fist and then put it down, becoming angrier the more she thought about it and raising it again.
She really wanted to ask him straight to his face about their conversation and what was going on with the future of the family. Why did Megan not let her in? She was gnashing her teeth with frustration, unable to ask due to her pride and shame, and finally spoke to Wayne, "What did you two discuss, and what’s this about the future of the family? Why didn’t Megan let me in?"
"These things are too dark, Megan did it for your own good."
Wayne patted Veronica’s shoulder, flashing a carefree smile, "I’m different, you know my quality, I blend into the darkness easily."
Veronica’s face changed, and she was at a loss for words.
"Leave it to me, you just need to be happy."
Wayne put his arm around Veronica’s shoulder, and while she was caught off guard, he pulled her into his embrace, "Trust me, you are important, Austin wants to protect you, and so do I. It’s that simple."
Veronica rested in Wayne’s arms, smelling the scent of societal refuse on him, her thoughts extremely complicated.

Wayne smashed through the window, shattering the glass behind him, and flew a great distance.

Veronica was still irritable tonight. Wayne decided to give her a few more days to cool off. He opened the door to the room where Mona was, took a look, saw she was still not awake, and went next door to check on Chris.
Upon entering, he saw the senior sitting by the bed, her eyes ice-cold and ruthless.
Hearing the door open, Chris woke up, approached him tentatively, and asked with concern, "Wayne, what happened to your face?"
"I got hit by accident while saving you, just a small injury, it will subside by tomorrow." Wayne downplayed it, signaling Chris not to worry.
Liar, it was clearly from Veronica’s hit!
Chris knew full well but respected Wayne’s lie.
Thinking about it, Wayne had gone through several tough fights to save her. The fact that he was still alive was a miracle in itself; he must have taken quite a beating.
That was the honest truth!
She raised her hand to touch Wayne’s cheek, her fingertips diffusing moonlight to reduce swelling and disperse bruises, asking gently, "Does it still hurt?"
"A bit, I have this old remedy that works wonders," Wayne pointed to his face, whispering a word to Chris.
Chris, blushing, nodded and tiptoed to kiss Wayne’s face.
"Does it still hurt?"
"It’s shifted, now my mouth starts to hurt."
The corners of Chris’s eyes crinkled with a smile. She parted her lips slightly and pecked the corner of Wayne’s mouth.
Are you serious, senior?
Wayne pursed his lips, savoring the lingering sweetness, saw that Chris had lowered her head without moving, and got carried away by his fiery blood, pressing her against the wall.
He bent down, his hand moving, and the conquest began...
