"Lord Dreyne, I really can’t play cards with you anymore," Chris sighed softly, counting on her fingers, "like the Naturalism Church, or the Sun Church, and it might be the Heavenly Father’s Court, who knows? After all, Wayne is so good at making girls happy."
"So what if he is? All those people combined aren’t as pretty as you and Philomena. It’s doomed to be a failure." Dreyne didn’t care; looking at Philomena’s face, even she felt inferior. As long as Wayne wasn’t blind, he would know how to choose.
"Lord Dreyne, thanks for the compliment, but have you ever considered that there is a female mage whose looks are not the slightest bit inferior to mine?" Philomena, who had undergone training, took over the conversation.
"Who? Someone so impressive?"
"The Holy Maiden of the Dark Church."
A string of question marks floated over Dreyne’s forehead. He looked at Philomena as if she were an idiot, but seeing her serious face and not joking around, he couldn’t help but burst into laughter, "I’m just teasing, and you took it seriously. I know Anastasia, let me say this—if she and Wayne ever ended up in bed together, I’d eat all these chips!"
Dreyne pounded his chest, assuring, "She trusts Wayne but has absolute faith in Anastasia. Impossible, absolutely impossible!"
Philomena remained silent; the Moonlight Knight didn’t have an innate naivety like her and Chris, but he definitely had a naive brain. With that kind of intellect, he was even worse than her past self.
A new hierarchy of disdain emerged.
Nearby, Chris had already begun organizing the chips.
Dreyne rolled his eyes, "Chris, what are you doing?"
"Collecting the chips, to prepare for Lord Dreyne to enjoy later."
"Look who’s talking, Anastasia isn’t that kind of person!"
"Alright alright, you want to bet with me, huh? I’m not trying to scare you, but I have never lost a bet... Well, not many times at least."
Dreyne sneered, "You two have successfully piqued my interest. I accept this bet. I swear by the name of the Goddess, if something happens between Anastasia and Wayne, I will grant each of you one wish within my power and will not refuse you."
"Lord Dreyne, do we need to make a similar vow?"
"No need. It’s a sure bet. I’m just teaching you a lesson, not trying to take advantage of you." Dreyne waved his hand generously.
You’re quite the character!
Chris and Philomena both rolled their eyes. Having spent a few days with Dreyne, they were quite fond of him. The Moonlight Knight had no airs about him; his personality was nothing like his cold, emotionless, icy demeanor.
A very casual person, carefree, not sweating the small stuff, and could make friends with anyone.
Of course, not just anyone could be that ’anyone’. Like Philomena and Chris, their connection with Wayne and their roles as mentor and student brought enjoyment to Dreyne’s otherwise dull life.
In short, setting aside the facts and ignoring Dreyne’s faults, she was all virtues.
"Listen, you four stay home, don’t go anywhere. I’ll bring Wayne back so you can witness it; I will surely win all his chips tonight." Dreyne asked Dedwin for a cup of tea, intending to return immediately.
"Lord Dreyne, remember not to give Wayne time to run away at night. Keep a close eye, and make sure to catch him," Philomena reminded.
"What’s with the night running? Weird, if he likes to run at night, I’ll just run back with him." Dreyne muttered as he walked out of the manor.
