Kel looked bewildered, sitting in the backseat as he watched Heaven fade into the distance. He turned to Wayne, "You promised me, just five minutes."
"The plan changed last minute."
"No way, let me out. I have plans."
Kel pushed open the car door, ready to jump out, still unsure of why Wayne and Mona had grabbed him but sensing something was amiss.
Wayne grabbed him, holding him down despite Kel’s struggles. He calmly said, "Kel, trust me, you were born for greater things, not to be obsessed... obsessed with beauty."
Obsessed with beauty, my pleasure!
Kel rolled his eyes. His brother had been with him through thirty years of hardships, never having a full meal.
Just when they found a buffet that suited their taste, with unlimited food ensuring he was full, could he really leave? Did he deserve to abandon his brother and the plans they made under the table? Was he even human?!
Of course, he couldn’t say it like that. Kel wore a gloomy expression, "Wayne, you don’t understand. I can’t go, they need me."
"How so? A gambling dad, a sick mom, a brother in school, and her, all broken?" Wayne sneered.
How come you sound so experienced? Do you go there often too?
"You’ve said it all, what more can I add?"
"Then no more nonsense. Come with me quietly, or I’ll take off your fish roe bag!"
"At least tell me where we’re going!"
"I’m introducing you to a friend."
West District high-end hotel.
Wayne led Mona and Kel to a suite on the sixth floor, where they met Sister Titus and a pale-faced Archibald.
Archibald looked terrible, as if he had been manhandled by dozens of men the night before, seriously drained and weak.
Looking at the vibrant and lovely Titus and then at the worn-out Archibald, Wayne shook his head, "Archibald, nuns may be appealing, but your health is your capital. Take good care of yourself and don’t overdo it just because you’re a mage with a strong essence of life."
Archibald managed a bitter smile, "Wayne, don’t talk about it. It won’t happen again."
Archibald didn’t elaborate further. Two nights before, he had barely escaped with his life from the Moonlight Knight due to severe injuries and had to return to the hotel limping.
Unsurprisingly, his good looks attracted a few burly ruffians who dragged him into an alley.
Fortunately, the situation was manageable. Though badly injured, he wasn’t totally defenseless. He mentally contacted Titus to come to his rescue, avoiding a tragic fate.
This dark episode was a point of shame for Archibald, and he ordered Titus never to speak of it again. Being a man of dignity, naturally, he wouldn’t tell Wayne either.
"Let me introduce you. This is the famous detective, Kel Polo, a Silver Mage."
"He studied Holy Light Magic at the Holy See earlier on, and now freelances, owning his own detective agency. He’s quite renowned in the Lundan detective circles. I’ve known him for a while and he’s trustworthy."
"This is Archibald from the Papal State, with Sister Titus as his assistant. Both are decent people."
Wayne made the introductions, eyeing Archibald as he nodded, "If all goes well, he’s the person you’re looking for."
Archibald was greatly surprised, having never expected Wayne’s efficiency to be so high. No sooner had he finished speaking than Wayne had brought forward the second Reincarnated Angel.
To be clear, he had checked the Golden Rule Bible given to Wayne by the Pope. With Wayne’s capabilities, it would have otherwise taken at least six months of continuous search.
And that’s with focusing the search in Lundan, otherwise, without narrowing down the location, it could take decades to find him.
"It’s a bit fast. Maybe it’s just a coincidence that I knew Kel, I’ve always felt there was something off about him from way back." Wayne said dryly.
He didn’t understand Reincarnated Angels, but looking back, Kel’s peculiar taste may have hinted at his identity early on.
Curious, such an obvious characteristic, how couldn’t the Papal State have noticed sooner?
Or is it that, except for Kel, other angels blend into the aesthetics of God-chosen Continent after reincarnating as humans?
"Wayne, what does the envoy from the Papal State want with me?" Kel suddenly got tenser, sensing an increasing mystery.
"Because you’re a Reincarnated Angel."
Kel was utterly stunned and pointed at himself, "A Reincarnated Angel, me...wait, what does that even mean?"
"Literally, an angel reincarnated as a human."
Wayne slapped his thigh and said, "Remember when Mona asked for your help to recommend someone, to join my detective agency? Reincarnated Angels lose their memories. They are unaware of their identities, so the Holy See has clergy actively searching for them."
Quick-witted detective Kel quickly understood the sequence of events.
He had seen Wayne morph into an angel and had sold this information to St. Paul Cathedral for a price. Then, ’Big Sister’ Mona visited him, and he helped her by recommending someone to join Wayne Detective Agency as a freelancer.
"How could I possibly be an angel? My magic talent is limited; I’ll only ever be a Golden Mage at best. How does that fit the noble status of a Reincarnated Angel?"
Kel shook his head skeptically, then said, "Wayne, the idea of you being an angel is outrageous. The Bible says angels have no clear gender, yet here you are, born a human and so lustful. How do you explain that?"
"Having no clear gender doesn’t mean having none at all. Liking beautiful women is normal, and you too... ah, you like Sese."
