Most chakra beasts without Water Release defensive techniques or some other way to protect themselves from the fire were roasted alive.
The beasts that were injured from the explosive shockwave were also helpless to retreat. They could only watch and howl pitifully as the flames consumed their skin, flesh, blood, and internal organs slowly before turning them into ashes.
As for the injured beasts that had decent fire resistance, their deaths were even slower and more painful. They tried to resist with every possible innate ability they could release.
But in the end, the unforgiving, scorching flames still took their lives away, leaving behind only their charred, smoking corpses.
The remaining fifty or so chakra beasts from the first wave that managed to protect their lives from the explosive shockwave and the crimson fire also suffered varying degrees of burns.
Unfortunately for them, the ninjas just didn't stop hurling kunai and throwing ninja tools laced with explosive tags at them, leaving them no room to escape.
Another volley of explosive tags was detonated, making the battlefield outside the town walls even more chaotic.
Explosive shockwave and crimson fire erupted once again, injuring and killing a hundred more chakra beasts.
Although most chakra beasts were of D and E danger ratings, reducing their number in the early stage would be beneficial for the people guarding the town.
This way, during close combat, they wouldn't have to worry about ambushes by groups of random D-rank and E-rank chakra beasts, which could be deadly when fighting C-rank or higher chakra beasts.
Unlike the D and E-rank ones, the C-rank chakra beasts had many peculiar innate skills that could fatally injure or kill even a full-fledged Jonin.
So, even though a Chunin could kill an average C-rank chakra beast, these beasts with superior physical strength and unique abilities posed a fatal threat to Jonin, who were distracted by other weak chakra beasts in a chaotic battlefield.
So, it was better to wipe out as many D and E-rank chakra beasts as possible before the close combat beyond the town walls began.
And that's exactly what the ninjas were doing.
"Keep throwing. Keep throwing the explosive tags until the total reserves dwindled to only five explosive tags per person for emergency needs."
"Then, wait for my order to unleash long-ranged Ninjutsu."
Uzumaki Benitsu shouted and commanded the ninjas of the southern checkpoint as he was throwing tens of explosive tags at the chakra beast below the elevated platform with full vigor, killing the chakra beasts decisively.
Seimei couldn't help but look at the checkpoint commander when he heard him shout.
Wow…just look at the number of explosive tags we are throwing?
We probably used up more than three thousand of them already.
And we can still keep throwing them?
We are not killing chakra beasts; we are throwing money at them.

According to his estimation, they had already killed or incapacitated more than 900 chakra beasts. And at least 850 of them belonged to D and E danger ratings.
Overall, they had killed fewer than sixty C-rank chakra beasts.
All of this was possible due to the deep pockets of Konoha, allowing them to burn nearly three million Ryo worth of explosive tags and a few hundred thousand Ryo worth of kunai.
Even in this world of supernatural power, money can still help you change the tide of war.

Uchiha Sorata, who was beside Seimei, replied, "Indeed. We need to run to the elevated platforms we have created beyond the walls and attack them with Ninjutsu after a while."
Seimei threw another kunai laced with explosive tags before responding, "We need to be wary of the sudden attacks from the C-rank, B-rank, and possibly A-rank chakra beasts while casting long-range Ninjutsu."
"Who knows what kind of bizarre skills they have?"
"Especially the B-rank and higher chakra beasts."
"They have enough intelligence to manage the large groups of chakra beasts and launch long-range or domain-type attacks that may render our Ninjutsu useless."
"Their attacks pack a lot of punch. If we are not careful, they can easily wipe out a group of Shinobi or samurai with ease."
Sorata took a deep breath and responded, "Yes. I know."
"We are attacking with long-range Ninjutsu after that, mostly to kill as many D-rank and E-rank chakra beasts. We can also kill a few and injure a hundred or so C-rank chakra beasts with that."
"As for the B-rank and higher chakra beasts…"
"Unless we restrict their movement and render them unable to use their innate skills, it's almost impossible to kill them with long-range Ninjutsu. Because it would never hit them."
"We must fight them head-on. That's the only way to give them no chance to counterattack or dodge when we deal a fatal blow with a powerful Ninjutsu, Kenjutsu, or Taijutsu."
"Always use the Jutsu that requires fewer hand seals when you face them. If a Ninjutsu takes a long preparation time, let's say two seconds or more, it's better to use it only as a finishing move once you manage to injure the chakra beast with your other moves."
Seimei nodded, "Got it."
For the next ten minutes, the ninjas kept throwing explosive tags.
Soon, when the reserves of explosive tags finally ended, the kill count had already surpassed nearly 800 D-rank chakra beasts, almost all 500 E-rank chakra beasts, and 70 C-rank chakra beasts across the southern, eastern, and western checkpoints.
