The Land of Water was an island country that stood solitary atop the sea, shrouded in a thick fog all year round.
Though it was surrounded by water, the terrain included sharp mountain peaks... ideal for hiding armies.
From this hidden isle, one could reach the Land of Fire to the west, the Land of Wind and Earth to the east, and even the Land of Lightning to the north without too much trouble.
With its countless reefs and harsh approach, the Land of Water was a fortress by design.
Deep within those mountains lay the Hidden Mist Village.
"That's Mist Village," Obito muttered, standing atop a tall tree with White Zetsu, watching the fog-drenched valley below.
"The Third Mizukage was being manipulated by Madara," White Zetsu explained beside him.
"He enforced the brutal Blood Mist policy... kids had to kill their own classmates to graduate. He even wiped out the Yuki Clan for their Ice Release. But after Madara's death, the Third Mizukage died too."
White Zetsu continued, "The Fourth Mizukage took over just two days ago. He's a kid. Literally."
He was blunt. Not out of honesty, but because he was lowkey terrified Obito might figure out Madara orchestrated Rin's death.
Now that Madara's corpse had been wiped out, and Black Zetsu was a memory inside a toilet-flushed void, White Zetsu had already pledged allegiance to his new boss: Uchiha Obito.
Obito said nothing. He already knew everything Zetsu was spilling, but it was nice background noise.
"Still infighting?" Obito asked, watching the mist twist over the rooftops.
"Yeah. Mist tried to capitalize during the Third Great Ninja War, especially after Sand and Leaf suffered losses. They hit both hard."
"But the Land of Wind had Pakura... they got slapped. And Konoha sent the Uchiha to deal with them. The Fourth Mizukage was recalled from Konoha's battlefield to take office. The Seven Ninja Swordsmen were sent back to plug the gaps."
Zetsu's breakdown was thorough.
'God damn... if I hadn't watched Naruto, I'd be legit impressed. White Zetsu really is the Google of the Ninja world. People sleep on him just because he's not some powerhouse,' Obito thought with a grin.
"Got it," he muttered aloud. "Send clones to every major battlefield. If you find corpses of ninja with Kekkei Genkai, bring them back quietly."
"Understood," Zetsu replied, then slipped underground like a creepy mole.
'White Zetsu... I, Uchiha Obito, officially declare you the Strongest Tool Man alive,' Obito smirked.
Night fell like a blanket soaked in ink.
The Mist Village slept uneasily, wrapped in a damp silence only broken by the low hum of bureaucratic stress.
Inside the Mizukage building, under soft light, Yagura Karatachi... child-faced Fourth Mizukage was scribbling away at papers.
Suddenly
"Who?!"
He snapped to attention, but it was too late.
Twin scarlet eyes glowed through the darkness.
"Uh... that easy?" Obito raised a brow behind his mask.
Either Madara's genjutsu was OP as hell, or this kid's mental defenses were made of paper. Obito didn't even need to try. The illusion wrapped around Yagura's brain like a python.
The technique Madara taught him wasn't ordinary genjutsu. It didn't just fuck with your five senses... it burrowed into your brain stem and snuggled in deep.
As long as Obito kept the pressure up, Yagura would live out the rest of his life in a dream... and never know.
In the anime, Sasuke's attempt to control a Jinchūriki ended in a beatdown. Obito, on the other hand, had successfully controlled the Four-Tails' Jinchūriki for years.
It wasn't until someone used the Byakugan to peek into Yagura's brain that they even knew.
'No tailed beast now, no double load on my chakra. Guess that's why it was so damn easy,' Obito thought.
But still... genjutsu was no joke. Visual prowess drain was real. Controlling too many people could backfire fast.
He briefly wondered: back in canon, had Obito controlled both the Three-Tails and Yagura at the same time? Was he multitasking that hard?
'Tch. Whatever.'
Obito snapped his fingers.
Yagura blinked. His eyes cleared. He sat down and got right back to paperwork like a good puppet.
Perfect.
He'd eat, sleep, shit, fight just like before. The only difference? He now followed every one of Obito's silent orders without question.
"Thanks, Madara-sensei," Obito muttered under his breath, nodding in approval.
With that, he activated Kamui and vanished.
Soon, the shadows in the room... the Jonin bodyguards blinked too, eyes clearing. They never even knew they'd been under a spell.
And so, with one snap and a pair of glowing eyes, the Mist Village had a new silent ruler.
