At least the Third Hokage would choose the village over his old partner.

Danzo could never have imagined that the words he often used to deceive others and defend himself would now become the Third Hokage’s reason to convince himself.
Those words were harsh.
They felt like sharp spikes piercing deeply into Danzo’s heart.
At this moment, Koharu and Homura didn’t dare make a sound.
They chose silence because they knew that nothing they said could change the Third Hokage’s decision.
"Root will be disbanded. I will allow you to keep a few people as your subordinates.

Not only was Root being disbanded, but the Third Hokage was also stripping Danzo of his position.

Entering Shisui’s house, Kazuki sat on the sofa and said to Shisui, who was pouring water:
"I accompanied the Hokage to the Daimyo to handle some matters. We met the Daimyo, who had received intelligence that our Hokage’s advisor planned to assassinate him to support someone else."
Clang!
Shisui’s hand shook, causing the cup to fall and shatter on the floor.
"That’s impossible!!!"
Shisui’s eyes widened in shock. He thought Kazuki was joking or slandering Danzo.
’I knew you’d have this reaction.’
Among the high-ranking members, Shisui trusted the Third Hokage and Danzo the most.
Kazuki leaned back:
"I’m not joking. This is true. The Daimyo was furious and withheld the funds meant for Konoha’s development. The Hokage went to the Daimyo because of this."
"The Daimyo doesn’t even trust our people and wants protection from Iwagakure and Kumogakure, fearing Danzo might actually assassinate him."
"To stabilize the Daimyo, I recommended you to him. You will go to the Daimyo side to protect him. You must ensure his safety. Only by stabilizing the Daimyo can we handle this properly. Otherwise, if the news spreads, Danzo and Konoha will become the laughing stock of the entire ninja world."
With Kazuki’s alarming words, the seriousness of the situation escalated significantly.
