As soon as the Edo Tensei was completed, the vines entangling Jiraiya's shadow clone tightened suddenly, causing it to disperse into mist.
Jiraiya had known from the start that his shadow clone wouldn't be able to harm Danzo. He only used the clone as a distraction. With power at their level, regular shadow clones were mostly ineffective unless they were specialized techniques like Wood Clones or Lightning Clones.
Seeing Danzo resort to Edo Tensei, Jiraiya understood that Danzo was now revealing all his trump cards.
"Kill him," Danzo ordered the Lightning Country shinobi.
"You bastard, Danzo! I'll kill you! I'll tear you to pieces!"
A jōnin from the Lightning Country, regaining his senses, cursed Danzo with unbridled fury. During the First Great Ninja War, the squad he led, which included his wife and children, had been completely wiped out by Danzo and Hiruzen Sarutobi. His hatred for Danzo was boundless.
But even though his mind was clear, his body, under Edo Tensei's control, couldn't resist charging straight at Jiraiya. His hands formed seals with practiced speed, and a sphere of lightning coalesced in his right hand before he launched it at Jiraiya.
Jiraiya slashed with his Lightning Flame Blade, sending a powerful arc of lightning that shattered the lightning sphere and struck the jōnin, cutting his body cleanly in half.
No blood spilled—only countless paper fragments fluttered to the ground before reassembling and healing the jōnin's body instantly. He resumed his charge toward Jiraiya.
When the Second Hokage originally created Edo Tensei, it wasn't meant to rely on the summoned ninja's combat strength alone. Instead, he intended for the summoned ninja to work as walking human bombs with Explosive Tags layered on them. The constant detonations would overwhelm enemies.
It was only after Orochimaru perfected Edo Tensei that the summoned ninja retained combat abilities close to their prime.
The jōnin's body was covered in Explosive Tags, and if he got close enough, those tags would detonate instantly, creating a blast capable of killing even Kage-level shinobi.
Jiraiya leaped back, biting his thumb to draw blood and slamming his hand onto the ground. With a massive expenditure of Sage Chakra, two small toads appeared on his shoulders—Fukasaku and Shima, the Sages of Mount Myoboku.
Summoning them had consumed a large amount of Jiraiya's Sage Chakra, but he quickly recovered.
"Jiraiya, what's the trouble that made you summon us?" Fukasaku asked. He knew just how strong Jiraiya was. In Sage Mode, Jiraiya could dominate most opponents unless he encountered the elites of the Great Shinobi Villages.
"Two elders, Danzo of the village is trying to kill me for unknown reasons. He's transplanted the cells of Hashirama Senju and the Sharingan of the Uchiha, and he's mastered the Uchiha's Izanagi. Fighting him alone is proving difficult, so I summoned you for help." Jiraiya quickly explained Danzo's situation.
"Hashirama's cells and the Sharingan? Well, that's quite the combination," Fukasaku remarked. "It's been a while since we've had a proper fight. This should be a good chance to stretch our legs."
"Be careful, old man," Shima cautioned. "Jiraiya said he can use Wood Release. It may not be on Hashirama's level, but it's still nothing to take lightly."
Being part of Mount Myoboku's leadership, Shima was well aware of how fearsome Wood Release could be.
Seeing Jiraiya summon the two toad sages, Danzo's expression darkened. He hadn't expected Jiraiya to have a contract with them.
"Two elders, please help me take him down," Jiraiya said, pointing to the Edo Tensei-controlled Lightning Country jōnin. He intended to seal the jōnin before the Explosive Tags could detonate.
"We'll restrain him. You seal him," Fukasaku said.
Edo Tensei could only be neutralized by sealing or dispelling the technique—Fukasaku knew this well. He also knew that Jiraiya had mastered the Uzumaki Clan's sealing techniques, making him the perfect candidate to handle the sealing process.
Fukasaku and Shima simultaneously launched their Fighting Tongue Bind technique. Their long tongues shot out, wrapping tightly around the jōnin and immobilizing him.
The jōnin tried to detonate the Explosive Tags, but Jiraiya moved too fast. He closed the distance in an instant, his hands flying through a series of seals before slamming his palm against the jōnin's abdomen. Sage Chakra surged into the jōnin's body, forming a seal that locked him in place and suppressed his movements.
The entire sequence happened so quickly that the jōnin didn't have time to detonate the tags.
Seeing Jiraiya seal the jōnin so easily made Danzo's heart sink. He unleashed a barrage of wind blades at Jiraiya, but Shima countered by spraying a jet of water that sliced through the wind blades effortlessly—a technique similar to the Water Severing Wave.
"Use Wind Release Dust Cloud to block his Sharingan's vision," Fukasaku instructed Shima.
Summoning Fukasaku and Shima not only boosted Jiraiya's combat power, but also provided him with tactical support.
"I know what I'm doing," Shima shot back before inflating her cheeks and exhaling a powerful wind laced with dust.
The swirling dust cloud enveloped the entire area, blocking Danzo's line of sight. This technique was similar to the Hidden Mist Jutsu but far more potent, capable of blinding even the Sharingan.
With Danzo's vision impaired, locking onto Jiraiya became much more difficult.
