Before White Zetsu could fully dive into the ground, Uchiha Fugaku's kick severed the tree, cutting off White Zetsu's path to the soil through the trunk. Quickly, Fugaku summoned a shadow clone to catch the falling top half of the tree, suspending it in mid-air to prevent White Zetsu from reaching the ground.
As a Kage-level shinobi, Fugaku's perceptive abilities were already razor-sharp, and after fusing with the Yamanaka clan's sensory abilities, his awareness had only intensified. Though White Zetsu was a master at concealing his presence, he couldn't escape Fugaku's detection.
With the tree suspended, White Zetsu could no longer use his Mayfly Technique to escape through the ground. However, White Zetsu acted quickly, breaking away from the tree and attempting to dive directly into the ground.
"Ka-ka—"
Before White Zetsu's body touched the earth, Fugaku—bathed in green light—appeared beside him in a flash, his right hand clamping tightly around White Zetsu's throat, preventing him from sinking into the ground.
"So it really is White Zetsu!" Fugaku murmured with a satisfied smirk. After releasing the Eight Gates, he studied his captive.
Though White Zetsu had witnessed his attack on Shimura Daisuke, Fugaku felt little concern; White Zetsu knew nothing of his true identity. Fugaku's conversation with Daisuke had been concealed within his real illusion technique, rendering it completely inaudible to Zetsu.
The last time Fugaku had fused with a White Zetsu, he had prevented the Sharingan from going blind but was unable to obtain Wood Release or White Zetsu's unique ninjutsu. Now, with White Zetsu delivered to him, he saw an opportunity to learn these skills and possibly enhance his own Wood Release abilities.
White Zetsu's ability to transmit messages across long distances meant he'd likely reported the situation, and since Zetsu clones share a collective consciousness, it wouldn't be wise to move him. Even if Uchiha Obito arrived using Kamui, it would take some time—enough time for Fugaku to extract the desired techniques before eliminating White Zetsu.
With that, Fugaku activated the hypnotic powers of his Mangekyō Sharingan. White Zetsu, who was adept at stealth and gathering intelligence but had minimal resistance to genjutsu, fell into a trance almost immediately. His struggling body went limp, and his gaze dulled under the powerful hypnosis.
"Show me the Mayfly Technique," Fugaku commanded.
Under his spell, White Zetsu formed hand seals and demonstrated the Mayfly Technique, diving into the ground before emerging again. The keen observation and recording capabilities of the Mangekyō Sharingan enabled Fugaku to capture every detail of the chakra flow and hand seals involved.
"Now, use the transformation technique and mimic me," he continued.
White Zetsu formed another set of seals, and his body began to morph like soft clay, reshaping itself to resemble Uchiha Fugaku's build, clothing, and even chakra signature. The transformation was nearly flawless, making White Zetsu indistinguishable from the real Fugaku except for his concealed face beneath the mask.
"Excellent," Fugaku observed, inspecting the replica. The transformation was impeccable; it would be nearly impossible to detect unless someone knew Fugaku's personal markings up close.
"Cancel the transformation and use the Spore Technique."
Under hypnosis, White Zetsu dissolved his transformation and created an almost invisible spore in his hand. With chakra infusion, this spore rapidly expanded, forming a clone of White Zetsu. The new clone, unhypnotized, immediately attempted to escape using the Mayfly Technique.
"Crack—"
Fugaku intercepted, breaking the clone's neck before it could vanish underground. He then turned back to the original White Zetsu, whose chakra was nearly depleted after creating the clone. Fugaku's goal was nearly complete, but there was one more piece of information he wanted.
"Where is White Zetsu's main base? Is there a place where many White Zetsu gather?" he asked, pressing for the location.
Under the hypnotic influence, White Zetsu attempted to answer, but a faint "pop" sounded from his head, as if a small seal had broken. White Zetsu's body went limp, lifeless, his survival mechanism triggered by forbidden knowledge.
"There was a restriction," Fugaku noted, realizing White Zetsu had a seal similar to the Root's Curse Mark of Absolute Obedience. The restriction prevented him from revealing crucial information and would self-terminate if he attempted to.
He looked at the recently killed clone but shook his head, realizing that it likely had the same restriction. White Zetsu's intelligence network was evidently thorough, preparing the clones to avoid this exact scenario.
"It's time to go. Uchiha Obito may be on his way, and now is not the time to confront him directly."
After sealing the two White Zetsu bodies into a scroll, Fugaku prepared to erase his tracks. But then he had a better idea.
"Mayfly Technique!"
Drawing on his Sharingan's copied knowledge, he formed the seals and activated the technique. Typically, Uchiha members could copy and perform ninjutsu, taijutsu, and genjutsu, but secret techniques or Kekkei Genkai abilities were inaccessible unless the user had the appropriate physiology.
Fortunately, since he had already absorbed a White Zetsu, Fugaku possessed the requisite characteristics to perform the Mayfly Technique successfully. Sinking into the earth, Fugaku felt as if he was swimming through a vast, boundless sea.
"Puff—"
Fugaku vanished underground, moving swiftly and stealthily. The Mayfly Technique allowed him to travel without leaving any traces and at remarkable speed, making his escape untraceable.
