Jiang Cheng glanced at Banana Wolf and pulled Fatty out. When he reached the door, he saw a full black plastic bag. “Sister Qing.” Jiang Cheng offered, “I’ll help you throw your rubbish.” Before the woman could react, Jiang Cheng picked up the bag and left.
After the two left, the door slammed shut. Fatty stood in the corridor and tried to catch his breath. The chill from Wen Qing unsettled him greatly. He knew they shouldn’t be chatting in the corridor, so they turned to head to Room 707. The rest of their teammates waited for them there.
The door opened when they reached the room. “Come in,” Wan Xiaoning ordered. Then, they entered the room and saw Chu Jiu.
“Where’s Hua Luo?” Jiang Cheng frowned.
“He went out because he received news.”
After updating them about the situation in Room 717, they did not look so good. However, this was unavoidable. Risks had to be taken.
“What is that?” Chu Jiu glanced at the bag Jiang Cheng carried. Jiang Cheng placed it on the ground. He told Fatty to find something to cushion it. After all, no one knew what was inside the trash. Once the bag opened, they were hit by a horrible stench. The travellers had a bad feeling.
The bag contained many things, including rotten fruit and mouldy cake. At the very bottom, they found a piece of meat. It was a large piece, but the rot had settled in.
Wan Xiaoning looked professional and graceful with the gloves. This didn’t look like her first time doing something . Fatty suspected she might be a forensic doctor in real life.
“These things appeared in the room recently.” Wan Xiaoning picked up a fruit core and commented, “They can’t be more than ten days old.” Theoretically speaking, Wen Qing had died some time ago. So, who had been consuming these fruits and meat in her room?
The travellers worked together to scan through the trash. Inside a wrinkled white package, they found half of a sticker. The sticker was for a seafood market called Hao Ke Lai. The sticker had a phone number on it. Unfortunately, the number was missing the last digit. Jiang Cheng tried 1 to 9. When he tried the digit nine, the person on the phone finally admitted that they were from the Hao Ke Lai supermarket.
The person on the phone said that they offered delivery service. However, when Jiang Cheng asked about the delivery to Ping An Apartment Building 1 Room 717, the person said they had never delivered to that address. They also added tactfully that they didn’t deliver to the upper floors of Ping An Apartments because the place’s elevator was often broken. If the tenants of the upper floor ordered anything, they would have to come down for the pick-up.
However, Wen Qing clearly couldn’t leave her room. Someone delivered the stuff to her. Someone like… the old man in Room 717. They were working together. This was verified by the worker from the supermarket. The person confirmed that it was an old man with a ruined face who came to intercept the delivery.
Finally, the travellers understood why Wen Qing let them go so easily and let Banana Wolf stay behind. Most of the time, the ghost could only kill one person. They also figured out why the old man was the one cleaning Wen Qing’s room. This was a trade. One of them wanted money, and the other wanted human lives.
“Then, Banana Wolf…” Fatty frowned with worry. He had a good impression of the young man. He was not a bad person, or else he wouldn’t have volunteered to stay behind on his own.
“Fatty, you’ll come with me to find the landlord.” Jiang Cheng turned to Wan Xiaoning. “You can stay here with Chu Jiu. If you still don’t hear anything after a while, go to Room 717…”
“We don’t need to wait anymore.” Wan Xiaoning’s eyes were calm. “Banana Wolf is dead. We can’t save him. Only he can save himself.” She sounded cruel but sensible. She was highly rational. “I’ll join you to meet the landlord.” Wang Xiaoning turned to tell Chu Jiu. “Do you mind staying here to pay attention to the movement in Room 717?”
“Okay.” Chu Jiu nodded.
When the landlord saw them, his face paled. However, he still tried to put on a smile. He put down the cup and greeted them, “Why did you come back so soon? I thought you would have moved away. How is everything…”
Before he finished, Jiang Cheng punched him in the face and knocked the old man to the ground. Fatty rushed over to beat up the man as well. Jiang Cheng grabbed the man’s cane to swing it at the landlord’s head.
Wan Xiaoning stood outside the door to guard it for them. Worried that the old man’s screams would attract the others, she closed the door slightly until she felt the sound was just right.
Jiang Cheng dumped the broken staff. He didn’t need to say anything. The dying landlord held his leg and cried as he confessed everything. When he heard that this was not the first time the old man had done something , Fatty went to kick him again. If he had not been useful, Jiang Cheng would have killed him.
Wan Xiaoning entered the room. She glanced at the old man and then whispered to Jiang Cheng, “Keep him alive. Killing him might draw unnecessary troubles.”
The landlord pleaded and said that he didn’t mean to do the things he did. However, he still needed to live. If he didn’t do these things, Wen Qing would come for him. He spat out blood and added, “Your friend might not die. Not everyone who entered her room had died.
“Wen Qing only kills those men who liked to play with people’s emotions, just like the man who tricked her.”
Fatty glanced at the Doctor. Thankfully, he was there, or else he might have smashed the old man’s head in.
“Who is the woman in Room 808?” She hated this landlord. “What happened there?”
“I really don’t know anything about that!” The old man couldn’t stand up after he lost his staff. Blood poured out of his nose. “My job is merely to deliver the orders for Wen Qing and rent out her rooms. I don’t dare to ask her about anything else!”
