Back at the apartment, Sophie Smith just wanted to lie down on the bed and get a good night’s sleep. This unexpected event had disturbed her, and she wished that when she woke up, it would all have been just a dream.
Although she was exhausted physically and mentally, she couldn’t fall asleep. In fact, her decision was quite simple, but why was her heart still aching faintly?
Hearing the sound of the door opening, Sophie knew that he had returned.
The relationship between them was really strange. He had said that she was just his lover, and when he got tired of her, she could leave.
But after so long, why hadn’t he let her go? Whenever he had time, he would return to this apartment. At least for now, she hadn’t seen any sign of his boredom. How long were they going to continue ?
"Asleep?" Asher Land walked into her room, took off his suit jacket, and lay down on the bed. Sophie kept her eyes tightly shut, afraid that she wouldn’t hold back, afraid that if she opened her eyes, she would shed tears in weakness.
"Will you talk to me?" Asher whined like a child, certain that she wasn’t really asleep.
He kissed her ear softly, and sure enough, Sophie opened her eyes.
That was her sensitive spot, and he had grasped it firmly.
"I’m tired," Sophie said quietly.
"Is it exhausting doing promotions lately? Why not just cancel all those promotions?"
"I’m an actress; those are my job."
"How about quitting acting?" Asher held her in his arms, his big hand sliding over her fair skin. "Just focus on being my woman."
Ridiculous! Just focus on being his woman?
Give up her dreams, abandon her own life, just for a man who could discard her at any time?
Sophie pushed his body away and sat up on the bed, a faint, weak smile at her lips.
"What do I get from focusing on being your woman?" she sneered. "Sure, maybe I can have a life without worry for food and clothes, but I will always be a woman who cannot be presentable in the public eye."
He had never been so concerned about a woman, but why did she always want to leave him, or say something sarcastic ?
"Am I not speaking the truth?"
He couldn’t respond to her counter question. The so-called presentable woman was certainly someone his father arranged for him. That devilish father controlled everything about him and his two brothers, and so far, no one had been able to resist him.
"So, is a proper title important to you?" Asher sat next to her, feeling somewhat dejected. Hearing this question, Sophie’s sarcastic smile deepened.
"I, Sophie Smith, am definitely not the kind of woman who likes being the third party or someone’s mistress. I’m with you now because you’re threatening me with that so-called contract and those shameful videos. Without those things, I would leave you without a second thought!"
She said that without those things, she would leave him without hesitation.
Actually, he knew from the start, but why, when she said it herself, did he still refuse to believe it?
He imprisoned her body but couldn’t imprison her heart.
If one day he let go, perhaps she would never come back again.
