About half an hour later, Sophie Smith finally walked out of that room.
Asher Land’s expression was, of course, not pleasant, but Sophie didn’t think much of it and went straight up to him.
"Sorry for keeping you waiting so long."
Her attitude was indeed impeccable, and Asher Land smiled, generously forgiving her.
Asher handed the prepared check to Sophie, who hesitated for a moment before taking it from his hand. She held the check tightly in her hand, and after a long while, she turned around.
"This money is for you to pay off the debt."
"Wow, a real benefactor," Charlotte Harrison said, full of excitement, as she tried to grab the check, but Sophie dodged, not allowing her to take it.
"You... you’re not backing out again, are you?" Charlotte’s face changed, and she looked at Sophie with suspicion.
"I’m not your ATM, and I’m not as rich as you think, so I hope you stop squandering it. The casino is not a good place."
She didn’t know why Charlotte had gotten into gambling. Had sudden wealth caused her to lose herself? Perhaps she shouldn’t have given them that money.
"Nowadays, which celebrity doesn’t have some money? You just can’t bear to spend it on your own family!"
"Family?" Sophie sneered, "Do you consider me your family now?"
Charlotte knew she was in the wrong and didn’t respond.
Asher Land watched Sophie with interest. It was the first time he saw her being assertive with others. Usually, she would only fuss and get upset with him.
"Please believe that this is absolutely the first and also the last time." If Charlotte went to gamble again, honestly, Sophie didn’t know what she would do. This time, Asher helped, but what about next time, and the time after that?
She couldn’t keep bothering him repeatedly; she didn’t have the right or the intention to do so.
After speaking, Sophie took Asher’s arm and walked straight out the door.
"Sophie!" Christopher Smith shouted.
She knew what Christopher wanted to say, but Sophie chose not to listen, even more so not wanting Asher to hear.
She vaguely heard Charlotte gossiping maliciously behind her, though not loud, but enough for her and Asher to hear.
"Is she someone’s mistress now? Seems like she found a rich guy..."
Sophie’s mouth twitched slightly, but she didn’t turn back. Asher could feel her body tense. He wanted to turn around and give that sharp-tongued woman a good lesson, but her hand tightly gripping his arm left him no chance.
It wasn’t until they stepped out of that oppressive small building that Sophie released Asher’s arm.
"Sophie, I dislike seeing you the most."
"What?" Sophie obviously didn’t understand what Asher meant.
"Can’t you keep holding my hand all the time?"
Sophie was momentarily speechless.
"About the money you owe me,..."
"Did I say you owe me any money?" Asher interrupted her. "All of that was me giving it to you."
Yes, perhaps that money was nothing to him at all, but for her, accepting it felt like charity.
Does this woman have to make such a clear distinction with him?
"Fine, if you must repay it, you can, but I can offer you a shortcut," he said, raising an eyebrow.
"Seriously accompany me for seven nights, and the debt will be considered paid," Asher Land said with a charming, playful smile, certain she would agree.
"Asher Land, you’re being a rogue."
Interesting, it was the first time someone took his affection as an act of roguery.
