A tantalizing aroma wafted into Sophie Smith’s nostrils. She took a deep breath and headed down to the kitchen.
Asher Land was already seated at the dining table, with Nanny Garcia bustling around, bringing the meal to the table.
Why is he up so early?
Sophie felt a bit awkward, since this wasn’t her home and she was only a guest. Sleeping so much and waking up this late seemed somewhat inappropriate.
"I got up late." She awkwardly sat down at the table, not daring to meet his eyes.
"I didn’t do anything to you last night, you really did get up late," he said with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.
Sophie ignored him, her gaze fixed on the delicious food on the table, as her stomach inappropriately grumbled twice.
"Can two people really eat this much?"
Looking at the table filled with both Chinese and Western-style breakfasts, she frowned slightly, thinking her appetite wasn’t this big.
"Eat whatever you want, I’m not forcing you. Look at you, skinny as a rail,..."
Sophie earnestly gazed at him, thinking he might be concerned about her wellbeing after all.
"Not even a hint of softness," the man pronounced each word deliberately.
Sophie rolled her eyes at him, almost touched by his gesture, but fortunately, she was able to brake just in time.
Sophie picked up a piece of pancake, put it in her mouth, and took a gentle bite, chewing slowly. Just as she was about to reach for the yogurt, Asher stopped her.
"Nanny Garcia, bring some warm milk over."
Why drink something so cold first thing in the morning?
"But I want to drink yogurt."
"Didn’t you say you wouldn’t force me?" Sophie distinctly remembered him saying that three minutes ago.
Asher’s lips curled into a harmless smile. After a pause, three words came out of his mouth.
It was just as she suspected, getting this man to listen to others and respect their wishes was about as hard as climbing to the sky.
Nanny Garcia brought over the warm milk, and under his watchful eyes, Sophie had no choice but to give up her beloved yogurt.
After accompanying him for breakfast, Asher went to the office.
Left with nothing to do, Sophie wandered aimlessly in the villa’s garden. Not wanting her to feel bored, Nanny Garcia followed her around, chatting about various topics.
"Nanny Garcia, how long have you been with Asher Land?" Sophie casually picked a flower and lightly sniffed its fragrance.
"The young master is 27 this year, and I’ve been with him for 27 years," Nanny Garcia sighed deeply, but a content smile spread across her face.
Sophie was somewhat astonished; 27 years is indeed not a small number.
"Then..." Sophie thought for a moment, but decided not to continue questioning.
Although she deeply wanted to learn more about him, her remaining rationality told her not to get too close, not to know too much — the closer you get, the more you know, the more dangerous it becomes.
Seeing that Sophie didn’t speak, Nanny Garcia proactively started another topic.
"Miss Smith, are you from Eastern City?"
"Oh, no, I’m from Southern County."
"Southern County?" Nanny Garcia instantly perked up, "The young master’s mother was also from Southern County, you two really are destined!"
"Is that so?" Sophie was obviously also quite shocked, but why had he never mentioned it to her?
