Sophie Smith adjusted her clothes and forced a smile at the corner of her mouth. Her gaze fell on Asher Land, who was not looking at her, and she didn’t know what he was avoiding.
Just as she was about to leave, Asher Land grabbed her wrist.
Sophie freed her hand from his grasp, maintaining her smile.
"Can I ask you a question?"
"When can you let me go? Let me leave you completely?"
Asher Land looked at her in disbelief. He couldn’t remember how many times she had asked him this question. Each time, her expression was either angry or furious, but this time he couldn’t quite read her expression.
Not getting his response, Sophie closed her eyes in despair and then dashed out.
She’s not naive; of course she understood the meaning behind Luke Land’s words.
He made her face a reality, that Asher Land’s partner must possess a status strong enough to match him. Someone like her, an unremarkable actress, would only be enough for him to toy with.
But why? Why should she let him play with her ?
"Luke Land! I warn you, if you dare to lay a finger on her again, I won’t let you off!"
"Ha, don’t tell me you’ve genuinely fallen for this woman." Luke Land crossed his arms, showing a look as if wanting to see the drama unfold. "Third brother, you two won’t have a future. At least, you won’t get past father!"
"I don’t need you to remind me." Asher Land, annoyed, threw the document in his hand to the ground, having no mood for anything now. "Get out!"
Luke Land was indifferent to Asher Land’s attitude; he was well aware of his third brother’s explosive temper.
"Fine, I’m leaving, but I advise you to think it over."
Asher Land exasperatedly loosened his tie, standing at the floor-to-ceiling window, looking at the bustling scene below, a trace of desolation rising in his eyes.
He hated himself ; although he had always excelled at controlling situations, he was now powerless to control his own heart.
How long had they been together ? He tried hard to recall.
At first, he thought she was not different from ordinary women. But she wasn’t; she never abandoned the thought of leaving him. She wasn’t like other women who demanded things from him, and even when she asked for help, it was only for her friends.
"Sophie Smith, perhaps, I will never let you go in this lifetime.
Whenever she felt helpless, the first person she thought of was Edward Harrison.
She wished she could return to those days when she could run into his arms crying whenever she was upset, disregard her image, and let go of all her emotions.
Unconsciously, she arrived at the north gate of Eastern Film Academy.
She directly called Edward Harrison.
"Little Sophie, you’re back?" Edward was also very happy to hear her voice. "Wait for me at Lakeheart Pavilion, I’ll be right there."
"Okay." Sophie’s mood instantly improved. Edward always appeared at her side unconditionally when she needed him.
"Sophie!" Eva Miller, Amy, and Isabella Yates somehow appeared behind her. "What a coincidence! Why didn’t you tell us when you came back to school?"
Isabella was already getting a bit impatient in her eyes. "Eva, let’s go, didn’t we agree to go and have coffee together?"
"Then Sophie, let’s go together." Eva familiarly reached out to hold Sophie’s hand, which Sophie reflexively pulled away.
"No, Eva, I... I’m waiting for someone here."
"Who are you waiting for?"
