Sophie was completely unprepared when the director suddenly pulled her, causing her whole body to lean forward slightly.
Asher Land frowned with displeasure.
The director looked up and happened to see Asher Land’s sharp gaze, shivered, released Sophie’s hand, and quickly lowered his head.
Without thinking much, Sophie rubbed her wrist that had been hurt by the director and sat back down.
Everyone’s jaws dropped; is this how a rookie actor treats the big boss of the Golden Era Consortium?
In fact, Asher Land was already used to Sophie’s attitude. If she started to flatter him, then that would be an earth-shattering change, wouldn’t it?
Sophie and Asher Land were separated by three seats, the director and Anna sat on either side of Asher, both chattering nonstop, so much so that Sophie nearly covered her ears.
Naturally, her impatience was noticed by him.
"Eat without speaking, sleep without talking; do you two not even understand this basic principle?" Asher Land spoke coolly, addressing the director and Anna beside him.
Immediately, both became as silent as cicadas in winter; everyone at the dinner party turned unusually restrained, and the atmosphere was incredibly awkward.
Now that Asher Land had spoken, who dared to say anything?
Sophie preferred a quiet atmosphere, but this celebration banquet was intended to be extremely lively, a festive occasion. If Asher Land ruined the original atmosphere because of her, it would be somewhat inappropriate.
So, she felt she should reignite the lively atmosphere of this dinner party.
She picked up a bottle of red wine on the table and poured it into Wyatt Sterling’s glass next to her.
"Senior Brother, I toast to you, thank you for taking care of me during this time." Sophie spoke very softly, thinking only she and Wyatt could hear.
Her gesture was merely intended to liven up the table’s atmosphere. Even a simple toast would be better than staring blankly at the food.
Yet, in Asher Land’s eyes, her actions appeared as if she was ’attracting bees and butterflies,’ deliberately trying to anger him?
And right in front of him, getting cozy with another man, playing with flirtation.
Everyone noticed Asher Land wasn’t touching his food, only casting a cold gaze at Sophie, unsure of what was going on. Everyone knew Sophie used to be his woman, perhaps still is, but why didn’t they see Sophie trying to please Asher Land?
Or was Asher Land genuinely angry with Sophie for not trying to please him?
The director seemed to have caught onto something; he stood up, carried a glass of wine, and walked over to Sophie.
"Sophie, you were able to secure the lead role in City of Desire all thanks to President Land; aren’t you going to offer a toast to President Land?"
Sophie was at a loss for words; should she go over?
After all, with so many eyes on her, if it were just the two of them privately, she would never try to please Asher Land. But now...
It’s all a matter of her decision.
She didn’t want the atmosphere to become stagnant, so she took the wine glass handed by the director.
"President Land, thank you for your appreciation, allowing me to play the lead in City of Desire." She said briefly, then tilted her head back and drank the wine in one gulp.
She was about to return to her seat but found the director had taken his seat and started chatting with Wyatt Sterling.
Caught between a rock and a hard place, she had no choice but to linger and sit beside Asher Land.
"Miss Smith, it wasn’t my appreciation; the reason you got this role..."
Asher Land paused, a hint of a wicked smile on his lips, leaned closer to her ear, and spoke in a voice that only the two of them could hear.
"You got this role entirely because of your skills in bed."
