Once Dungeon Boss, Now Dad Chapter 68

When the darkness surrounded everyone again, they all stayed alert. No one spoke. The silence felt heavy, and the air was tense. Nobody knew what would come next. The darkness wasn't just the absence of light , it felt as if something was watching, waiting for them to lower their guard.

Slowly, the black faded away. Shapes appeared, light returned little by little, and everyone saw they were no longer where they had been. Each group now stood in a different place, the true centre of the chamber. The final trial was ready for them.

Before anyone could speak, Varnex's voice echoed through the air. His tone was calm, but it carried a challenge.

"I hope you are ready for my commanders," he said. "And I'll remind you again ,  if you fail to defeat even one of them, you will all fail. That is, if you can defeat even one of them."

And with that, his voice faded, leaving only the sounds of these strange places. The commanders appeared.

The Thundergate

Sylra, Cyrus, Lila, and Fizzle stood in what looked like an ancient arena. The Thundergate was set inside a broken mountain. The air felt heavy, as if charged by a storm. Every breath tasted of metal. Large bronze pillars shaped like tuning forks stood around them, with lightning arcing between them. The walls of the arena were marked by burn marks, and the floor was cracked and worn from old battles.

In the middle, chains held floating stone platforms. They moved slightly, as if the wind or the charge in the air kept them unsteady.

From between the pillars stepped Borrum, the Thunderhorn. He was a huge minotaur, with dark fur and a horn that crackled softly with lightning. His armour was thick and gave off a faint glow, as if it held the energy of the storm. He moved his head from side to side, cracking his neck, and flexed his fingers. His eyes watched the group with focus, and the weight of his intent could be felt in the air.

The Ironhall Core

Far underground, Doran, Nira, and Junith stood inside the Ironhall Core. The chamber was round, the walls rough stone overlaid with layers upon layers of metal. Age-old runes were etched into the walls, their shapes glowing softly as if they remembered their purpose now that challengers had entered. The air was thick, heavy with the scent of rust and the heat of old forges.

In the centre of the chamber stood what looked like a giant heart, cracked down the middle, forged from iron and fire. It pulsed faintly, as if trying to beat again after centuries of silence. The ground trembled beneath their feet as the heart began to shake. A deep groan filled the air, the sound of metal awakening. The temperature in the chamber began to rise, and the runes on the walls glowed brighter, feeding the presence that was about to reveal itself.

---

The Nullmirror Vault

Adrian, Vaela, and Darek found themselves in a dark, quiet place. The walls were made of black glass, like mirrors, but they showed no reflection. Light spells faded, and torches wouldn't stay lit. Even when they spoke, their voices seemed to get lost in the air.

A thin layer of dark water covered the floor. It didn't move when they stepped on it. No ripples, no sound, just stillness. The room felt empty. The quiet here was almost painful. And worse still, everywhere they looked, there was nothing. The vault waited, hiding its danger.

---

The Echoing Hollow

In a vast natural cavern, carved by the earth itself, Ruvan, Zerik, and Sera entered the Echoing Hollow. Great arches of stone rose like the ribs of a giant beast long buried. Soft light shone through crystals etched with ancient wind glyphs, filling the hollow with a strange, peaceful glow. Small whirlwinds wandered across the ground, some carrying petals, others fragments of cloth and weapons broken.

At the heart of the hollow floated a ring of pure air, shaped into the form of an orb, turning slowly in place, waiting.

---

The Skyvault Sanctum

Orin, Kael, Nymera, and Drakar found themselves in a temple high above the clouds. The floor had gaps that showed the stormy sky below. Tall marble pillars reached upwards, and golden light from the sun broke through the clouds, making the place feel open and bright.

There was a soft hum in the air, like energy waiting to be called on. The wind moved across the floor and around the pillars, never stopping.

At the centre stood Kalix. His skin was dark, and and over it ran golden patterns shaped like lightning, starting at his head and flowing down to his feet. His white robe was thin, moving gently. His eyes were closed, and he stood quietly, calm but strong.

---

All around, the commanders now faced the challengers. The time for waiting was over. The real fight was about to begin.

Borrum stood steady in the Thundergate. The lightning on his horn glowed a little brighter as he watched Sylra, Cyrus, Lila, and Fizzle. He shifted his feet and rolled his shoulders, getting ready.

In the Ironhall Core, the iron heart pulsed stronger. The glow inside it spread along the cracks like molten metal. The room grew warmer, the ground trembled more, and the walls seemed to hum with energy.

In the Nullmirror Vault, the dark water finally moved. A faint shape started to rise from it, slow and silent.

The sphere of air in the Echoing Hollow pulsed gently. The breeze picked up, and the soft sounds of wind filled the space around Doran, Nira, and Junith.

And in the Skyvault Sanctum, Kalix opened his eyes. The gold in them matched the glow of the patterns on his skin. His voice was soft, but it carried through the wind.

"Come," he said. "Show me what you can do."

The final challenge had begun.
